So, I can't find any nursery bedding that I like, so I've found fabric that I like and want to buy. I bought some patters as well, but I'm confused about how much fabric to actually buy. For example, it says on the pattern that I need 2 3/4 yards for a 12X16 pillow, that seems like an awful lot of fabric for one pillow. It makes fabric suggestions for 45 inches wide and the fabric I found is 54 inches wide. Please tell me I'm not figuring this right. Other wise I need 25 yards of fabric for a skirt, bumper, pillows and a quilt and at $7 a yard, this is gonna add up quick, not to mention the cost of having it sewn. Ugh, just really confused. I'd appreciate anyones advice.

My two year old son's bedding was made, and I remember buying a lot of fabric. It was pricey.

I'm not a professional sewer, but it does seem like a lot to me too! If you know who you're going to have make the set, can you take the pattern to that person for verification? If not, I would double check it with the fabric store owner at least.

I can see 2 and 3/4 yards for the skirt or the bumper because of gathering on the skirt, and because of the fact that both go all the way around the crib...and you might use extra for edging too...but not for a baby's pillow. That's crazy talk.

Is there lots of ruffles (gathered up fabric adds up fast)? Or the need to match up patterns? I'd ask someone at the sewing shop for advice

I had this same problem when I had Sam. I wanted Noah's Arc and couldn't find any that I liked at all so I made his too. I made the quilt, bumper pad, skirt, diaper stacker, and even made curtains as well.

I bought 5 yds total. # of the one type and 2 of the other. Cost me less than $50 (I went through Ebay).
