That is what I had last night when I thought it might be a UTI. I hope none of you ever get one of these...it was the worst pain ever. It came on very suddenly and felt like a bladder infection, only much worse. I also had bad pain in my lower back on one side. I called the on call doctor and he totally blew me off....told me I'd probably pulled a muscle and to use a heating pad. I tried to just wait it out at home, but it was just awful. Finally dh drove me to the ER and I waited there about two hours before they decided to bounce me up to L&D. I remember just laying on the floor in the waiting room with my head in dh's lap...it was BAD. Up in L&D they admitted me for overnight, and ran a urine check and all that. First thing this morning I got an ultrasound of my kidneys and bladder. I figure either the stone passed, or it moved to a spot where it doesn't hurt anymore, because sometime in the middle of the night I felt much better. Now I feel like I have a regular UTI instead of stabbing pains.
It was really hard for my dh to get off today since our older daughter was just sick last week and he missed some time for that. The doctor said he would keep me overnight and let me go this morning, but by noon I still hadn't seen him. I was getting so mad. They wouldn't give me anything to eat, and after 24 hours of nothing I felt weak and got a headache. I guess it was just too busy with women coming in to have their babies. (I hope I don't go back till I have MY baby!) Anyway, sometime after lunch (which I couldn't eat) I checked out ama and went home. I'm so bad! But really? They didn't have two minutes to update me? Forget it...I'd rather lay at home and relax. I made a follow up appointment with my OB for tomorrow afternoon, so hopefully that will go okay. In the meantime I am just wiped out. I am not looking forward to being home alone with the kids tomorrow, and probably dragging them all to my doctor's visit. DH is being a pain, but I know he is tired and stressed too so I am just trying to let it go.

I am so sorry! That sounds awful. Silly doc to tell you it was a pulled muscle. I'm glad you finally went in but it sounds like you had no choice. I hope you're feeling better ((Hugs)).

Sorry you had to deal with that. I never had a kidney stone and I hope I never do. They sound really bad. Hopefully it passed and isn't just hiding.

Ugh, I'm so sorry! I had one in college & it was just awful... I can't even imagine dealing with that while pregnant & having other kiddos to take care of. Luckily, my mom is a nurse for a kidney specialist & she knew what it was. She allowed me to suffer at home, but said if it didn't pass soon, I was going to the ER. Honestly, I had an ectopic pregnancy several years later & initially thought it was a kidney stone...that's how painful they are. That kind of pain really just wipes you out. I hope you're feeling better soon!

Thanks ladies, I am feeling so much better today. The weather is sunny and even though I am wiped out it has been an okay day. I'm off to the doctor in another hour, so hopefully I'll get good news there as well. And I did get a babysitter for the kids, so I'm glad to be going solo.

So sorry! I suffer from kidney stones and it's not pretty. I passed 4 of them while I was in labor with my son!!! Blah! It hurts and it is super annoying for me bc I feel like I already spend too much time on the toilet while pregnant as it is, and the stones make me feel like I have to pee even more.
Do your best to stay away from soda's drink lots of water and a glass of cranberry juice every day.
Sometimes I drink home-made lemonade to help break them down if they are sticking around for a while. Be sure to keep an eye out to see if you are passing it... blockage can happen any time and that sort of pain is prob what you felt last night and it is not pretty! I've had two so far this pregnancy and I totally feel your pain!

THANK YOU so much for posting this!! I had almost the same thing this morning...blinding pain on my right side, a horrid backache, and blood in my urine. I thought I might have a kidney infection, but the test came back negative. The nurse told me it could be a kidney stone, and there is really nothing they could do. I feel so much better knowing that someone else had my symptoms and that's really what was wrong...I was stressed out that it might be something more serious that could affect the baby. I feel like I have been hit by a train, but at least I'm not peeing blood anymore, so I guess things are improving.
I hope you are feeling much better soon!

Lurking from the June DDC, i just had kidney stones in January, i had went into a routine checkup with my doc & they spotted blood in my urine, which is sure a sign i might have them coming, sure enough the next day i was feeling a lil sharp pain, not too bad, but was scared & went to OB Triage, the doc there blew me off & said it was more than likely back pain that was happening & sent me home, next night i was in so much pain i wanted to kill over & just die from it, i went back up & my doc happened to be on call & knew everything from my appt 2dys prior & had me get an ultrasound done, that's where they saw my kidney was inflamed, & you are right, it's the most painful thing in the world, i'd rather had gone through labor again with my kids LOL. But i jinxed myself by reading online that it was rare to get it in both your kidneys, but sure enough 2dys after they passed on my right side, give it a few days later & i ended up getting them in my left side too, just keep drinking ATON of water and avoid green leafy foods, anything with salt in it, peanut butter, no caffeine, and no tea as it can make them come back, from what i've been told.
