My office prefers it if women don't do anything to encourage their baby to be active during a level II u/s so they can get more accurate measurements and so it doesn't take ages to finish. They specified not to have orange juice or candy before the u/s, but I'm not sure if there's anything else I should avoid. The techs there are very picky and I don't want to be told to reschedule after barely a glimpse because the baby won't hold still. Have any of you heard of any tricks to encourage the baby to snooze rather than dance?

Yeah my doctors are great, but the techs and nurses drive me up the wall. I was planning on just drinking water and having an early lunch so hopefully any little bursts from that will be done. Don't they realize this is stressful enough without getting so picky?

Wow, they are picky...my u/s clinic made no such request. I don't know what to tell you other than to avoid the sugar and caffeine, although I didn't have any sugar beforehand, but my little guy was still bouncing around like crazy. So much that I have to go back to finish the measurements. Which is fine by me...I want another peek. So maybe you should have some OJ and then you can get another u/s!

Wow they are definitely picky! With my 2nd baby I ate a pouch of skittles before my u/s! haha They would of been yelling at me! The tech was able to get all the measurements and determine the gender!

If I had OJ and Skittles the tech would flip out on me. They gave me an instruction form specifying that I can't have those things and everything. My pre-op instructions weren't this picky! I'd love to get another u/s though so as long as the tech doesn't just say go away and come back I wouldn't mind missing a measurement or two. Plus I think it's a lot more fun when the baby is bouncing around and you can see how active he/she is.

I have never heard of such a thing. That's kind of nuts to me. I can see not drinking OJ right before the appt, but that's about it.

They're a really weird place. Your birth plan can be just about whatever you want it to be as long as you deliver in a hospital. They don't care if you want to try to deliver standing on your head, they'll let you give it a try. They're just really picky about the oddest stuff. I think a lot of it is just that the techs want to get people in and out as quickly as possible so they don't fall behind schedule. They always put the OB appointment immediately after so if they're behind the OBs/midwives are behind and that probably applies added pressure to be quick.

I was told by numerous preggos and ex preggos (lol) that walking around is like swaying baby to sleep in your tummy. So maybe being less active throughout the day, so when you DO get up and move around, baby goes to sleep in time for U/S?
I'm not sure lol I can't believe how picky your office is!

Thanks ladies. I have to leave soon and I'm soooo nervous! I'm going to spend 2 hours getting there (it's 20 minutes away) just so I have a distraction.

All I was told is that if you drink lots of water and your bladder is full it immobilizes the baby, so they can take all the measurements. I've never had anyone tell me not to eat or drink anything specific.
Hope the baby cooperates for you!!! Good luck!!
