With Marley I read tons of books and learned a lot, week by week development and possible complications in pregnancy. My mom didn't remember a lot of pregnancy stuff like when this happens etc so that's why the books were great. She was with me in my birthing room and she was so helpful and I contribute my quick birth to her and her instincts.

Also, the ladies on this board have been very insightful and supportive...so thanks!

So what about you? Who is your teacher? Confidant?

I've taken out so many pregnancy books from the library I can't even keep track. I've also used google quite a bit if I have questions. And, this message board has been great. For me, those have been my main resources.

I don't have any older ladies in my family...my mom and my grandmothers have all passed. Mostly I just google anything I have questions about. Carlos' family is great, and I talk to my SIL some about the pregnancy, but I feel kind of weird asking any of them about specific things, so, just y'all and google.

My first pregnancy I read 100 + books I swear. It was soothing, really. Now I mostly read parenting books. I prefer to no-cry discipline, attachment parenting, etc. I love books. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE JustMommies! I can always get opinions here!

The internet. My situation is kind of unique, so I don't have anyone I can relate to, in regards to pregnancy. I will look to my mom for some parenting tips, but we are kind of different there too. For example, I want to breastfeed and she thinks it's icky lol. Also, she believes in letting a baby cry it out and I don't.

The books and internet for the most part. My mom will give me advice if I ask for it but she openly admits that everything she went through (prenatal, labor and delivery etc) is outdated by 30 years.
As for parenting, I take a different approach than my parents did. Again, thirty years has taught us a lot! Books, Parents magazine, and a parenting workshop have been my guidance there.

With my first, I read religiously. Now I just revert to the Internet or talk to friends.

For the first it was family and what everyone else said. Also, the typical What to Expect book. For my second and now its internet, midwife/doula friends, hippy birth books, that kind of stuff.

I get a lot of my info from books, articles, and what I like to call, my "birthy friends" -friends in the field of birth. And I get a lot of support here at JM.
