I am a larger woman so the Snugli I have does NOT fit right and it is a pain to get on. Plus I have large breasts so it doesn't fit right.
Does anyone know what carriers work best for bigger women? I really want a good one this time (hopefully wihtout spending too much) so I can wear baby at the grocery store or when we are out and about so we have another option other than the stroller.
I don't think I want a sling, I want one that can be worn on front (mostly) and maybe back too.
Can anyone help???

I'd definitely be interested in hearing some answers regarding slings/carriers and big chested ladies... That's a big obstacle for me! (excuse the pun LOL)
I've heard good things about Mobi wraps, but a lot of ladies have said to avoid the Baby Bjorn carriers because they aren't ergonomically correct for baby (cause pinching of the legs and stuff...)

I am a size 12/14, I had a Moby wrap and it was ok. It was warm though. I hated the Bjorn, it hurt my shoulders very badly. I now have an Ergo which I absolutely LOVE. I do believe they have a waist extender too.

I really like the wrap style slings. Moby wraps are a good choice. I used a Hug a Bub with Leo, but am using a different one (same type of style) this time. I absolutely loved it.

I have a Beco, which is similar in style to the Ergo. I'm large chested as well (D or DD, depending) and have no problems using it front or back. It has an infant insert for when they're small and now it easily carries my DS who is nearly 30 lb.
If you are interested in a sling, I have had luck with my Hotsling. It comes in so many different sizes, my DH is 6'5" and the one I originally ordered for him was too big! So I know they have something for everyone. Also you could look into a ring sling like the Maya Wrap (the name is kind of misleading since it's a sling instead of a wrap) that can be adjusted as needed. I tried one but just preferred the Hotsling.
And just in case you're worried about slings in general, there's no reason to steer away from all slings - just the bag slings that don't allow you to properly position your baby. Here's a good link explaining proper positioning:

I have 2 moby wraps and a mei tai. I'm larger and I love them both!
If you wanted to try out one of the mobys or even the mei tai, I'm sure we could work something out. The moby was a bit difficult to learn to wrap but after a few tries, you should have it down pact.

I had a bit of a carrier addiction for awhile and tried a bunch. My favorite frontpack/backpack style carrier is the buckle tai from Two Mommas Designs.
I'm big and busty (16/18,40F) and it fits me SO very well front and back, even now with DD being about 30lbs. It's a little taller than the Ergo, not as tight on me as the Beco Butterfly and gives WAYS more support than a Bjorn/Snugli while keeping baby in a good position without stress on their spine.

I have purchased a Moby wrap for this baby and (embarrassingly) have practiced with my niece's doll so I can figure out how it works There is plenty of extra fabric, so I would think it would be fantastic no matter what your size. They have a great videos online that show how to tie them and use them, it just takes a little practice.

These are all great suggestions! With my son, I used a Baby Hawk mei tai and I LOVED it. It was great for newborn all the way until he he was 2. Then he just got too heavy for me!
With this baby, I will still use the Baby Hawk... but I also have a Moby wrap and will be getting a Beco. I love babywearing!

Ive never used a carrier with my other two, but since i'm now going to have more kids than arms i'm planning on getting one.
I've decided to get a moby or sleepy wrap (same type thing, different fabric), At least for 0-6 months, i may get another kind after that. To be honest i'm mostly getting it so when i go out in public or to family functions and don't want people manhandling the baby i can tuck them away in the moby.

I have been looking at them and I think I like the mei tai style the best. Too bad they are expensive though
The baby really doesn't mind having it's legs squished (tucked inside the carrier) at first?

nope thats natural for the baby to have its legs like that...if you sign up on thebabywearer.com they have a sale and trade section where you can buy used carriers. They are usually in great condition and the price is much better. I had a bit of a carrier obsession and have different carriers i like for different ages, but usually a meitai is my favorite type. If you try and buy from ebay and etsy becareful as some of the sellers do not reinforce there carriers the proper way. BUt you can usually get a great price on a used one on the site i listed. My favs for a good price are catbirdbaby (ones with the sleeping hood) baby hawk, and kozy carriers. What is your price range? i can try and find you something.

I have a Maya wrap and a Moby wrap! Do NOT get the ones from WalMart/Target/Babies R Us. They are being reviewed by the CPSC and are most likely going to be recalled due to baby deaths during use. Make sure you follow the safety rules if you plan to babywear!
Great blog article with the 'rules' and great tips:

oh forgot to add, the moby wrap is a great wrap until they get bigger. Its a stretchy material so you should never use it to back carry. A woven wrap will last much longer then the stretchy one and you can do back carries with it.

Actually Hotslings are sold at Target (both in store and online, it's where I got my first one) and those are perfectly safe - so you really have to know what type of sling it is that you're looking at. It's the bag type slings that have issues, specifically the Infantino SlingRider. This link has good info on how to spot a bag sling and photos of how crappy the positioning is in them: http://baby-carrier.blogspot.com/200...ag-slings.html

I would like to only have to spend $50-$60 or less especially for a used one. I need to find out what the baby is 1st though as far as what print to get.
So for the mei tai types, would they fit someone who is a size 18?
