I only find mixed reviews of this online, some places says you can submit elective ultrasounds (ie. 3d and 4d) to your Medical Reimbursement fund and some say its not elligible. I will mention the 'no's' are only opinions and guesses from people - and not actual answers.

So I wanted to see if anyone has ever tried submitting it through their Fund? Or maybe someone here has the legal knowledge about what will qualify? Thanks!!

*UPDATE*

So I got y check from the reimbursement fund today! So it qualifies as a reimburseable medical expense! Woohoo!

That means we will have our Gender scan on Monday at 5!! Im so excited!!!! Then included in the package is a 4d scan we will schedule around 28 weeks.

Oh im sorry! Its also called an FSA (Flexible Spending Account) its ussually set up through your work, and you can set an amount to be taken out of your paycheck over a year and you can then submit doctors copays or medical related bills to reimburse yourself instead of being completely out of pocket for everything.

For example, we do about $1000 every year in our account, so Jan 1, the account has '$1000' allotted in it. And what hubbys work does is takes out the $1000 over all his paychecks for the rest of the year. So instead of paying $1000 Out of pocket every year for medical bills, you pay $38 a paycheck, and you submit bills or quotes for medical every week to get the money to pay the bill.

I hope that makes sense!!

So some places online, even some 3d ultrasounds websites, suggest submitting the bill for it to your FSA. Ive gotten a quote from a local 3d ultrasound place and will know friday if it gets accepted or not.

if its your own money i would think you should be able to use it for watever you want thats medically related. It certainly couldnt hurt to try, is there someone from work that you or dh could talk to about it?

they pretty much told us the same. It just depends on how they put it in the system apparently. I think they can pretty much put anything through. I used it for a fertility monitor once, and it clearly said it was eligible. and to me thats an 'optional' medical need. I guess we will see friday! lol If so I will have my gender 2d scan on monday and a 4d scan is included in the package between 28-33 weeks.

We are trying to do it because hubby will be in police academy next friday and likely wont be able to get to come to the anatomy scan.

We have something similar at work (it's called a Wellness Account) and I'm sure that it would be covered. Ours covers various things, not just medical stuff, so I use mine up usually for transit passes or daycare expenses. I never thought about getting a 3d u/s reimbursed. I think I might try it. Thanks for the tip.

It certainly couldn't hurt to submit it, right? The worst that will happen is they decline and you end up paying it out of pocket anyway.

thanks ladies! We went for the platinum package that does the 2d gender ultrasound after 18weeks and you also get a 4d between 28-33 w. The owner was super nice and had never made a quote before but made one up so I could submit it today. We should know on friday if its accepted, and I will let you guys know!

I can't imagine it wouldn't be reimbursed since it's your money, not insurance.

Good luck!

I'm not sure, but I would definitely try. I know lots of things are covered with medical spending accounts so it's definitely worth trying.
