Ok, that survey thing caught my eye that I think their are only 2 of us choosing formula....is that right? Which are you choosing? No debate, Im just curious how many are choosing what.

I'm going to be breastfeeding, but with my other kids I switched to formula at like six months. I may do that again this time, or I may go for the whole year. My kids have done well on both.

i didnt vote, because i choose breastfeeding, but i have limited supply, so i either supplement or do 1 breast feeding, then 1 formula feeding.

I read something that in order to rely on breastfeeding as birth control, the baby has to suckle on the boob a LOT. (Is that what you call it guys, suckling? LOL)
This means no pacifiers, no bottles, just straight breastfeeding. Plus, I know two people personally who were pregnant by 3 months. You could also supplement with formula which would decrease the amount of suckle (heehee I love that word) time I'm sure.
We're (er, me) breastfeeding. Someone told me that once you get the hang of breastfeeding you can fall back asleep while you nurse, I was like "SOLD!" (lol)
ugh why didn't it make 2 seperate replies? Bridgett, I didn't mean to quote you when I said I was breastfeeding lol

Breast for me... and no, I couldn't rely on breastfeeding as birth control- my period was back at about 6 months, once she started eating solid foods. (I breastfed for about one year and weaned her because she kept chomping my nipple)

Bridgett, I got pregnant with Iris while BF Caspar so it didn't act as contraception for us.
I voted breastfeeding. I breastfed both my sons and I'd like to try and do the same, but reach the year mark!

I am planning on BF this time around. I tried with my premature daughter, but had a very difficult time and no support. For all of you BTDT BF moms, do you have any recommendations for better preparing myself this time?

I wish I had some advice to give- mine went pretty smoothly from the get-go. Just make sure you start ASAP- there's a period of time when baby will be most alert and receptive to suckling, afterwards they get sleepy if I remember right (it's been 4 yrs so don't quote me on that!)
I'm sure you know the basics already (eg. lightly brushing her cheek will cause her to turn her head in that direction and open her mouth, etc?)

i totally loved the first few weeks, i would sleep topless, & the boys always just found my boob and went right back to sleep, no crying or anything, eventually when they weaned they were used to "sleeping" all night it just became a habit.

I voted breastfeed. I did with my son only for the first 2 months. I had plenty of milk, but he was hungry every 30 min. The doc said he was starving! So I had to give him formula, not by my choice though, and I was only 17 so I didn't know much. One of my docs nurses said that since we know that now we can do something so I will be able to BF longer. But like you Bridgett, we want to start ttc right away also, like at least within the first 6 months.

Formula feed. I've had breast surgery and breast feeding isn't an option.

I'm going to try to breast feed but this is my first baby so I have my books and things to learn from before giving it a shot. If there is any complications and I try and try, I'll pump and I hope that'll work.

Breastfeeding for me. I breastfed Marley until he was 2 1/2. It's not very popular in American culture, but it was right for us. There are so many benefits, health behavior. If anyone wants to talk BFing at anytime just PM me...I have lots of advice.

DS was a preemie but I was able to succesfully breastfeed him for a year. DD just recently weaned herself at 15 months.
For me, I seem to have my first ovulation/period when baby is 10 months old. DF and I were TTC this baby and when DD turned 10 months I had my first ovulation and got preggo.
I personally LOVE breastfeeding and it is my personal choice for many reasons. One is that I haven't had a period since March of 2008(got pregnant with DD after that).
It can be difficult. If you are going to be in a hospital, ask the nurses to help you with getting baby latched on. Baby has to learn. It's recommended that you "tease" baby's mouth with your nipple til they open real wide, then pull baby to you. You're nipples might get sore at first. The hospitals always gave me lansinoh cream(for sore nipples). A little goes a long way with that stuff. And baby can nurse with it on. Basically the first 6 weeks is the hardest, but if you can make it past that, then you'll be fine.

Breastfeeding. I did it until 8 months with my other two until they self weaned or I had no supply. I really love the convenience of breastfeeding. Yeah, you have to sit down a lot, but there is no mixing of formula, getting up to prepare it and make sure it is the right temp to drink and yes you can sleep and breastfeed! Though I don't do that until they are at least 3 months because if you are large chested you can smother a baby that way. When I eventually had to formula feed I hated it! Its so expensive and I won't do WICC so... I don't get a period for the first 6 months either. I hope to make it to a year this time so I don't have to buy any formula.
