ok ,so I "wanted" to do cloth diapering ever since a good friend did it with her little girl and she loved it and it was easy! But my DH said NOOOOOO sooo I gave up. Well, I have been thinking Im home all day and I would be the one doing it anyways, other then at night when he would be home to help, or if we're out. I also do all the washing..Is it possible to do cloth at home and disposibles at night and away from home? or would it really not benefit since we would still be buying and using sposies?? Also the price is crazy for cloth and we are already on a budget without me working anymore. Any help? Any info or ideas? And he is set on not touching cloth no matter what.

Shannon, I'm planning on the same thing. At first my husband was like no way! But money is really an issue, so I'm thinking however many disposable ones we avoid using helps. I've been looking online, and have found a bunch of patterns, so I'm hoping to make some to help with the cost. I think my husband doesn't care as long as he doesn't have to deal with them. lol I assured him we'd use the others when he's having to help out with the diapering.

I just looked at patternes too. I have a sewing maching but it looks like fabric is jsut as expensive as buying them already made? It says you need waterproof or fleece, and I know what stuff is expensive!

Yes, you can mix sposies in with cloth. As for hubby, you might be interested in all-in-one diapers, which require no folding or pinning for your husband to use. As far as cheap cloth goes, you should check ebay out and Que linked this site a while back dappi Cloth Pinless Diapers

Here's a site that gives a rundown on each of the different kinds of diaper systems you can use (all-in-ones, prefolds, pockets, etc):

I bought a 12-pack of cloth and I plan to use about 75% disposable and 25% cloth. The 25% will be used on the weekends and days when I work from home. I'm also going to try to get to know when she poops so I'll use the disposable then, and cloth for other times. If you find a good deal on the cloth, they're cheaper in the long run than disposables, so that should make your hubby happy.

A lady online was helping me out, and she was saying if you use fleece (for the covers), and put it in the washing machine with fabric softener, and then a dryer sheet in the dryer it will be water proof, and you can get it cheap at Walmart....she said just to be sure you don't water proof whatever you're lining it with...lol I guess that's obvious. She said it doesn't have to be the real expensive materials. I've read where a lot of people use the little receiving blankets....just google making cheap diapers. There's a lot of advice. I'm not claiming to have tried any of this...it's what a total stranger shared with me on freecycle. lol So please don't anyone bite my head off....or go to another board here, and tell them how insane I am...

I am going to use only cloth, but money is tight for us, so since I sew, I am sewing all our cloth diapers you can make them really cheap if you do it yourself. Google "homemade diapers" or sew your own diapers. You can even make them out of old t-shirts, and use old wool sweaters for diaper covers. there are many many options!

Of course it's possible! We use cloth whenever we are home. Since I work part time thats two days plus the weekend plus afternoons after work. We use disposables overnight because I don't care what anybody says - they hold more pee! And if we go out of the house we use disposables as well.

We use cloth during the day but sposies at night and during naps. Both of our kids have very sensitive skin and this method works for us and keeps them rash free. My husband wasn't thrilled about cloth at first but now he washes diapers just like me without a problem. We have a wet bag and it's really no different than throwing a diaper in the trash - we just throw it in the bag and then empty into the washer.

Also, I wanted to add that I took an old receiving blanket, cut it up into 5-6 inch squares, put 2 squares together and edged around them with my sewing machine. I paired these with a water spray bottle and used them as cloth baby wipes, tossing them into my diaper bucket and washing them all together.

I just want you to know that I made my entire 0-6 month stash for my baby for under $50. We were super broke when Aidan was born and I made diapers out of anything I could get my hands on. Fleece and wool sweaters are great for covers and the dappi covers are great too (you can stuff anything that absorbs in a good cover).

Also check out craigslist and diaperswappers.com

Usually once hubbies see how easy the diapers are, they end up liking it and bragging about it to their friends.

Cloth diapers are MUCH cheaper in the long run! The initial cost is higher, but you save so much over time. You may be able to convince the husband by doing a simple cost calculation. Check out this site for a basic comparison: The Cost of Cloth Diapers. There are a lot of options with cloth diapers, some much cheaper than others, but all options usually end up being cheaper than disposables.

Your cheapest option is to use prefolds (very good ones from Green Mountain Diapers are about $24/dozen) with covers (very good ones are about $12 each, but they are reused for multiple changes, not washed every time). You end up paying a couple hundred for an initial stash of cloth diapers, but over time spend a lot less. Let DH see the cost comparison!

Also, for a lot of good info on cloth diapers, go down to the Cloth Diapering posts in the Parenting section. It is a very active discussion group and you learn a lot about the different types of diapers.

Totally! DH tries to convert people!

I second checking the two websites. The CD board here also has a for sale board.
