For those who's water broke at home (or they had fluid in their panties basically) what did it look like when it dried?
I experienced a POP! sensation a day ago in my abdomen while baby was kicking me and then shortly after felt a very small gush of something... So I went to see if I had to pee.. I can *Always* pee, so I did.. My urine is ultra clear because I'm drinking lots of water, and I happened to be wearing panties that were red, so color (other than recognizing moisture) was not something I could check. It didn't smell like pee and it didn't really smell like CM, either.. It almost smelled every so slightly... chemical? Nothing bad, just odd.
So then I laid down for bed. I woke up over night to feeling moisture but nothing excessive. Again, couldn't tell. So then I checked inside (tmi!) and it felt considerably more moist in there than usual, but I thought , alright it's not pee, it's probably extra fluid now.
But everytime I stand, I get a small gush. Nothing worth changing my panties over, just enough for me to feel it and notice it.
So then today I was going pee and I noticed that where it had leaked, it dried strange... Not like typical CM-- it looked like... frosty? Like, salty almost? Does that make sense?
So I'm wondering-- Does anyone know how fluid looks when it dries?? I know it crystalizes on a slide but... I'm curious. I did call my nurse, she did say I should get it checked soon but I have a doctor appt tomorrow A.M so I was planning on just waiting....
Update: I went to my OB appt-- she checked really briefly; did a swab but when she wiped on the paper it looked like the swab was barely wet-- like she didnt get much of a sample. The slide looked normal (no ferning).. But like, right when I got home and out of the car I stood up and felt another gush.
I also stole the rest of the litmus paper out of the trash can. She grabbed a huge strip and only used a tiny corner lol Is it wrong I want to test it at home? Granted its probably just excessive CM.. Still though. Curiosity killed the cat!

Mine never broke on its own but if you think you're leaking then hopefully contractions will follow soon. Don't DTD or insert anything (like fingers) trying to check so that you don't risk infection. I wouldn't tell them WHEN you felt the pop because they might rush your labor or give you a c/s if it's been over 24 hours. Your bag could possibly reseal and stay intact for awhile longer. Just mention that you *might* be leaking tomorrow and get a swab. Good luck!

Hmm, mine broke on it's own with Christina, but there was no looking at it for when it dried because labor moved in so fast and I was gushing water everywhere. The pop you described though does make me concerned that it could be that your water broke so I think it's worth getting looked at. For me, I was laying in bed dead asleep and I felt this big pop that woke me dead out of my sleep and scared the crap out of me. I got up to go to the bathroom and as I was sitting on the toilet water started gushing everywhere. The water didn't start until I went to the bathroom. For a moment I thought it was just me peeing, but then it was flowing everywhere. I mean there was just no doubt that it was my water breaking. There was just so much of it. I had to sit there and scream at dh because I couldn't get up off the toilet.
Well mine always broke on the toilet and it was a big gush and kept coming out in huge gushes where I had to wear Overnight pads the whole time. However, that pop you felt is what I felt when my water broke with DS in the hospital when I was being induced. It's entirely possible that your water did break, but because your baby's head is really low it could be blocking the opening and you only get small gushes of water.
I would get checked out. My midwife said that I have at least 24 hours before we would talk about any type of intervention if my water broke, so I think you are okay to wait until tomorrow.
I'm not sure when it dried, as I was in the shower when I felt mine start leaking. It was a trickle, hard to describe but it felt like the faucet was left on lol and I could actually feel it leaking out. I was wearing a pantyliner and it soaked through to my jeans, that's when I was pretty convinced that I was leaking. Have you been wearing a pad?
^^^ No, not wearing a pad but Ive just been changing underwear out. And yeah, I can FEEL it like a light trickle, especially when standing. But I also just wonder if it's just CM? Oh pregnancy, you're so much fun...
^^^Not really; I have had that really deep aching feeling in my low back/down low like menstrual cramps since it started. The problem is, I've had this lately anyway due to all the contractions I've been having. I will definitely be talking to my doctor tomorrow morning and have her check; or if this gets worse or things change I'll go to L&D.
I always tell my doula clients that the smell of of amniotic fluid smells like a cross between bleach and male ejaculate.. I know it sounds wierd.. but that's the only way I can describe it.
It kind of sounds like with the small gushes that you could have a leak high up.. I'd get it checked out just to be sure.

sounds like it could be a high leak. I would wait it out if you aren't contracting since you have an appt in the morning. Also, when you ask them about it, I wouldn't tell them how long it's been. I would just say that you had been leaking some fluid this morning (tomorrow) and you were wondering if it could be your water.
it could also just be super watery CM, or even urine. My body has played that trick on me before.

Yeah I was planning on waiting until the appt unless something major changed.
Thanks for your input ladies
The big POP sensation I felt was higher up; probably 3 inches above my belly button and it happened when baby was kicking/moving. I physically felt it on the inside, felt it with my hand externally, and heard it audibly. It didn't hurt. *shrug* We will see I guess. I am leaning towards it being watery CM, I think?
When my water broke I felt that pop like you described. I was leaking a lot more than you are so I knew exactly what it was. Good luck at your appointment tomorrow. . I agree with everyone else about not saying that you have been leaking starting tonight.

Just saw this and wanted to say good luck tomorrow! I know we'll all be waiting to see what happens.
And, I know what you mean about things being tricky. You always question...I wish that things were just clear cut! YES, that FOR SURE was my water breaking. YES, that's a for real contraction...
Well good luck today! I found this thread late. It sounds very much like a high leak to me and I hope that if it is indeed, then your labor starts on its own so they don't have to induce. Keep us posted when you can!

It sounds like a leak to me too. Glad you got checked out.
I just wanted to add that I get those clicks and pops when baby is really active. I don't know if it's a fluid bubble or what on earth it could be, but it's so strange to HEAR a kick!
KUP!
