I was thinking of taking the kids somewhere for a week in the US. We've done Florida a couple of times and loved it. Last time we stayed in a vacation villa that had it's own pool, but it was part of a gated community. It was like a home away from home and surprisingly the kids enjoyed that more, just staying by the pool and relaxing, then actually going to Disney. So I would really like to do something like that again, but not do any parks. Just the house, pool or beach, and have other activities for the kids in the area if we chose to do.

Ladies, please tell me of great vacation spots. Obviously Orlando is one, but DH doesn't want to do that again. He's thinking Crystal Beach, so he can watch a shuttle launch. But where else??? We would like to save as much money as possible, since there is 6 of us and we are coming from Canada.

thanks!!!!

Have you thought about other places like in CA? Or places like South Carolina, Corpus Christy, or Houston TX or even the Padre Islands?

In FL, Clearwater, Panama City.

Sounds like fun though..lol

If you want to go somewhere other than the beach, I'd recommend Gatlinburg, TN. We go almost every year, and I LOVE it. It's really family friendly, and there are many places to stay--hotels, cabins, condos. There are great activities for the kids--dinner shows, shopping, The Smoky Mountains. We're going in June, and I can't wait! I'm not really a beach lover, so the mountains are perfect for us.

Ocean City, Md is a family beach area. They have a great beach, boardwalk and condos. The prices aren't super inflated, we usually go grocery shopping before hand and cook a lot of meals in the condo. They have good places to eat too, we usually one eat out 2 nights while we are there, we cook all the others.

Jersey shore isn't like it is on tv lol. Williamsburg, VA. DC is also a great place to go but I think it would be more walking and touring then resting and relaxing.

How about Maine. Tons of beaches. Or NH has some small but great amusement parks that you can do in one day and relax the rest of the trip.

I was thinking of Ocean City. It's not too far away of a drive, so we could do it in one day without having to stop too many times. Do you know if they have vacaton villas there?? like a house you rent with it's own pool. That's what the kids loved so much and I'm kind of scared of watching 4 kids in the ocean as much as I would love to be on the beach.

I second this. We drove through the area and were going to stop but ended up not working out with the timeline we had. My SIL went and they loved it. My best friend goes every year as well and raves about it as well.

Why do Clearwater when you can go 30 minutes further south here to Sarasota? Siesta Key Beach is one of the top rated in the country. It's amazing.

I agree with Julie about Maine or NH. I am biased cause I grew up here but it's freakin' gorgeous in the summer, especially the Maine coast, and it wouldn't be too super far from you guys.

We have a beach house booked in Destin, FL for a week this summer! Destin is a great area.. The beaches are great and there is lots of things to do in that area! Panama city is also really nice, I've been there a few times!
