Juliana has been doing horribly with naps lately. She used to take short naps (~45 minutes) but lately, she'll wake up within 10 minutes of being put down if she's not sleeping in someone's lap or snuggled up to someone. We do co-sleep at night but she's always been fine sleeping by herself during the day, until about a week ago. Should I tell the nanny to go ahead and let her sleep with her in her lap? I don't want her to only be able to sleep this way, because on the weekends I need to get stuff done during her naps.

I'm not sure if it's related, but at about the same time she started using me as a pacifier at night. She hasn't done this since she was tiny. Last night and the night before she just sucked like a leach constantly (I know it sounds bad to call her a leach but that's what it felt like). I was too tired to put up a fight so I just let her.

We went through this about a month ago, she just didn't want to nap AT ALL. I guess it was a little phase because she naps normal again.

Could it be related to a 9 month growth spurt?

Hmmm ...maybe. She hasn't seemed especially hungry. I think she had her 6 month growth spurt at around 7 months so I was expecting the next one to be late instead of early, but it could be.

We have had some rough weeks here and there but we seem to make it through. I would say, stick to your guns on the naps in the crib. I feel like at this age, they are understanding more and more and need to start to understand certain things (like naptimes are in the crib and that's just the way it is.)

I guess I might try having your nanny battle it out. I would go and check/soothe Emmett if he woke up after only 10 mins or so and then leave the room again. Also, what worked for us was that I would give him a small toy in his crib and try to occupy him with it again when I went in to soothe. Often, he would play quietly and then fall asleep again.

Good luck!

Yeah it might be a growth spurt...I really have no good advice, I'm still having the oddest time with the munchkin lately... Naps all over the place...and she'll act sleepy and rub her eyes for hours before actually going to sleep and taking a nap. A part of me is wondering if she is suffering from dry eye, because it doesn't make any sense to me...except for maybe she's trying to figure out the whole sitting up/walking thing.

We're going through the same thing. DJ gets so tired and will lay down but then he's up again and wants to play or he'll sleep 15-20 minutes when he used to sleep 30-45 minutes. It's really hard on me because I used to count on those naps to catch up on things but when he's awake I feel like I'm falling behind on chores and taking care of myself. I hope it's a phase too.
