Three quarters of the way down, mama this year went WAY too fast. I'm holding onto these baby days for dear life! I don't want it to end!! Kenna is so unbelievably cute with everything she does, she makes my heart expode day and day out
We had an ok appointment, she hasn't had much weight gain in the past 6 months. The doctors just go by whats on paper and it's frustrating. I know she is totally fine, she's crazy happy, healthy, has more energy that I can even dream of, meeting and excelling her milestones but still, they raise eyebrows at her weight. She started out average, 7 pounds 14 ounces and has declined rapidly since. She was 14 pounds 14 ounces, 27.5 inches and 44cm head. 14 pounds is less than 3%. They told me to feed her more fattening foods and put butter on things (not margerine) I just smiled and nodded. I'll give her healthier fatter foods like avocados but I'm not about to slather butter all over her food. She also told me juice was ok (we are pretty anti juice, especially for babies) Good news is she pretty much refuses baby food and eats mostly what we eat now and lots of it so maybe she'll gain a little more by her 12 month appt and shut them up. She does have skinny little legs and arms haha. I love her though plus she's easy to carry
in other news she is pulling, cruising, scooting, talking, clapping, signing, imitating and just all around being awesome and cute
Im glad it went pretty good. Im not so sure I agree about butter at all though. I mean, they are just tiny. I really think what helped Kaileigh was when she began eating what we ate so hopefully she has a good gain by 12 months.
Im not convinced Kaileigh is 16.3 lbs because she was weighed at 2pm after taking an 8oz bottle 30 minutes before that, and when I weigh her at home she is only 15.6 thats a BIG difference.
Kaileigh's head was 17inches and I just did a converter and thats 43.2cm and they are the same length.
Kenna is tiny but perfect, and you know that as a mother. Dont let them scare you though.
haha that's funny you say that because i made sure she ate a big dinner and breakfast and hasn't pood and was 14-15 on my scale at home, 14-14 there, came home and pood for the first time in 2 days and is now 14-6 funny how poo can weight that much

ITA with you. It stinks how they don't take into consideration how active she is for her age, that probably burns a ton of their little calories you know?
Sophie is at least 20lbs (based on our bathroom scale, lol) so I am definitely missing the days when she was a little more lightweight, especially since I still have her in an infant carrier lol
She's doing so great! I wish Vincent was doing half the stuff Kenna is doing! It's crazy that they are the same height but Vincent's got 6 pounds on her. I honestly worry about him being so chubby for his height even though I know he's totally fine. I figure once he starts moving (whenever that is) he may slim down a bit.
I bet she'll put on more weight as she starts eating more table food.
I think its ok to give babies and toddlers full fat things, but butter??? Really??? That's like...pure fat and nothing nutritious!! What exactly is the goal the doctor had in mind, just to make her gain weight for the heck of it? Is it a problem that she is petite? Doesn't seem like it.
Ugh... Drs & the weight thing! Personally, I despise the "butter" advice, nothing like establishing unhealthy habits before 1 year. I can't believe all the stuff Makenna is doing!!! I'm so glad you're confident enough to smile & nod & do what you know is best for your kiddo.
My friend's daughter is 4 months & her pedi is harping on the weight thing. My friend is like 5'2" & 110lbs, so really? He has her terrified that something is wrong with her daughter. I tried to squash that, but I know she's still worried. Sigh.
Sometimes I think if your kids not in the 50th percentile you're going to hear about it one way or another. From someone with big chunky babies, I get it from doctors too! I wouldn't do the butter thing either, that just seems wrong. And hello, I've seen your pictures you're tiny of course you're going to make little babies!!
Under 3% is failure to thrive... IF they aren't proportionate. I think too many doctors don't look at the babies to see how they look before giving them advice like that. My two older kids were both tiny. Sarah Beth was tiny because she was born so early and it has taken her forever to be closer to on track. Lil Buddy was tiny because he was so sick. We give Lil Buddy any fatty food he'll eat. He was UBER skinny... you could see his ribs and back bone... he looked like those kids you see on TV with big heads and bones and skin. So I was more than happy to slather butter on avocado sandwiches and fry them if he'd just eat it. But that is SUCH a different situation than Kenna, who is healthy, proportionate and happy. Doctors MUST look at the kids... not the paper.
I agree, the butter thing is just meh. Some people are just little and are naturally that way and giving her unhealthy fatty foods is not going to help.
I was 101lb pre pregnancy and Eva weighted 8lb 7oz, it is what is hey?
