I am so excited. We are going to Disney World, I finally made my decision. We are staying at animal kingdom lodge in August. I know it is going to be hot, that was my major hesitation. But we will be doing a lot at the water parks and getting out early in the am. Anyone have advice on how to deal with FL heat in August? Keeping Tommy cool is one of my major concerns.

Congrats!!! August is hot here but so is any month May-October. Maybe y'all could wear a water bottle necklace to stay hydrated. Also I would carry as little as possible in the actual park. Been there a kazillion times as a kid but haven't gone in 12 yrs.

You could get one of those spray fans and mist him every so often.

Those one piece romper outfits that are tank top style on top, a sun hat and sandals would be my recommended outfit. Put the shade up on the stroller to keep the sun off and give him plenty of water to drink. He should be ok. MY SIL lives in Miami and I know she attempts to do things with her 1.5 year old in the morning or late afternoon. Still hot, but at least the sun isn't as intense. I know with Disney that may not always be possible, but I am sure you can find some activities to break up the day that are inside.

We've gone a couple of times in September (we'll be there again this coming Sept!). Definitely get up & going early before it gets too hot. You can get so much done before the parks fill up. Then you can either duck inside a show, restaurant, or head back to the hotel to swim & rest during the hottest part of the day. That's what we alwas do & it gives my little ones nap time while the older ones chill in the pool. We also found these little clip on battery operated fans that we hook to the stroller. They're bendable and have foam blades so the don't hurt, but they keep the kids cool. The older ones usually have the spray misting fans.

Just go in knowing you can't do it all, even in a week, so plan ahead what you definitely don't want to miss and leave yourself a bit more leisurely pace.

You'll love it (and might be hooked!). Have fun

ooh have fun. I can't wait till the kids will be older so we can go.
Great suggestions already. mist fan, take advantage of the indoor places when possible. Think it will be just fine.

Have fun! We did an August Disney trip right before I got pregnant with Natalie. It was hot! If you can bring in water bottles and a backpack to carry them and refill them. I can't remember if they let you bring them in or not, but if they don't, buy some when you get there and then refill them in the bathrooms. You will want lots of water.

Ditto the lots of water - I believe they do let you bring in bottles. If so, it's a good idea to freeze them and that way they stay cold longer. We always have a stroller and keep them in the basket underneath (along with a multitude of other things.) Also, they give you free ice water at any of the restaurants if you ask.

Thanks for all the advice. We've always gone in May, it wasn't so bad. But dd was 4 when we first went, so this time with an infant has me a little skeptical. I think it will be fine, we plan on spending lots of time at the water parks, pool and doing the parks at night.
