Aaron is allergic to both dairy and soy so we're toying with the idea of skipping cake all together (a cake made out of rice milk? mmm I don't think so) for his birthday. We're having a small party (so far we only know of one person coming for sure) so I don't have to worry about cooking for masses but I need ideas of what we can serve that he can dig into.

I was thinking spaghetti and homemade meatballs since he LOVES them but I would love other ideas as well. I would love to not be stuck in the kitchen all day too.

Stella is allergic to dairy too. I'm lactose intolerant so I've done a lot of cooking with rice and soy milk. You could experiment beforehand. I don't think a cake made with rice milk would be too bad.

My DD hadn't had eggs and was allergic to milk and soy for her first birthday. There are a lot of substitute options. I've heard Duncan Heinz cakes don't have any milk/soy product. You would need to read the label. Our cakes are different here.

I made special cupcakes for my DD, and she got one with a candle in it while the guests ate the alternate cake.

Thanks but I'm looking for non-cake ideas that would be easy finger food for him and not taking forever in the kitchen.

And, at that, I don't buy cake mixes, I make them from scratch.

One of my friends made these tiny cupcakes that were dairy free, dye free, and sugar free for our Easter Party yesterday. I can get the recipe from her if you want.

Here's a pic (they were so cute)

Sure! Do you know if they were soy free too by chance?

Thanks Holly!

That's a great idea Beth, I might do that if we can't find something else. Thanks.
