I saw just a tiny bit of this in his last diaper and I'm wondering what it could mean. I haven't looked it up yet because I don't want to freak myself out. I think I'll wait and see if there is anymore tonight and call the doctor's office in the morning.

I would be freaked out too. I did a quick look for you. It wasn't as scary as I thought. It really depends on the colour - red or dark. Here's one link I found.

I think it would be fine to call your doctor in the morning. Try not to worry too much.

Thanks! I'm thinking it may be an anal tear or something - it was definitely more of a bright red. He usually poops at least once a day but didn't at all yesterday and then went twice today. He seemed to be straining this last time before I noticed the blood in the diaper so I wonder if it's something like that but I will definitely keep an eye on it.

Awww poor baby. Hopefully it's nothing. I'd probably call the Dr too because it would definitely freak me out.

He seems to be fine from what I can tell. He was maybe a little fussier than normal (still not bad, though) but I just chalked it up to teething.

When Olivia is even slightly constipated(you said he strained) there is always blood on her stool. Not in it, but on it. And its bright red, you can tell there is fresh bleeding. Our pedi says its ok as long as its on, not in, and as long as I can tell it was from straining. I always get super freaked out though. And yes, I would call the doctor in the morning just in case.

That really sounds like what it was, except the poop wasn't exactly solid, which I thought was weird. I think it looked more "on" than "in" though, if that makes sense.

If it's in and not on, it's likely he is having a reaction to something he ate. Food allergies present as blood and mucous in the stool. I'm sure a call to the pedi can help with answers. KUP.

take a picture or two if you can. it's better to show the pedi rather than try to explain it, or wait for another BM

He did it again this morning so I'm going to take him in. I was still thinking it's nothing but I'm not so sure. The only solids he has had recently was a few bites of things for Easter dinner and only puffs and yogurt melts since then so if it's an allergy I don't know what would be causing it.

Stella had this and it turned out to be a dairy allergy. But it also can be from straining too, so I would call the Doc and try to keep track of what you are feeding him to see if it happens again.

We just got back from the doc and he said it was most likely just from straining. I think he's just a little backed up (probably from the "good eating" he did Sunday night, lol) and was just having a rough time. So I'll keep an eye on it and hopefully it'll heal up and it won't keep happening.

Glad he's ok. When Kaileigh was constipated a few weeks ago, she had a tiny bit of blood on it, not in it. It's just from the straining, and stretching to get it out.
