Avery has had this awful ear infection & we're going to finish-up her 3rd course of antibiotcs on Sunday. She's still not sleeping at night; she wakes up crying... a lot. Seriously, I feel like she's a newborn again. I'm really worried it hasn't cleared up. Then I keep thinking it might be more teeth coming in. She has a follow-up attpointment scheduled for Friday, but I'm thinking about calling & trying to get one for Mon or Tues. We're supposed to be going to Pittsburgh next weeked & it's so awful to travel with them when they're sick. Think I should move the appointment?

**Yup, still infected. The Dr is trying us on 1 more course of antibiotic & then said she thinks if this antibiotic doesn't work, we should go see the ENT. I'm thinking about calling and making the appt (because it always takes several weeks to get a consult appt) & then if they are OK, I can always cancle it.

I would call and get a new apt. When Kaitlyn had them she was fine about 3 days after antibiotics was started, then about 1 day before the dose is done it would start up again. Thats why we went from script, to script, to script then to shots. On going. I would call today if they have Sat apts, and ask her to be seen or at least get an apt Monday. To me it really sounds like she's going to need tubes in the long run. Is she seeing her pedi or an ENT?? I would also make an apt with Ethans ENT and have him/her give their opinion especially since their is a family history. Kaitlyn ended up getting shots of rocephin (I think thats what it was called) because liquid antibiotic never worked, and honestly neither did the shot but it got relief sooner though.

I haven't had to deal with ear infections so I'm not much help but yes, I would move the appointment up.

I called & they're taking her today at 1:10. Fingers crossed that the infection is gone. I have my doubts though...

Thinking of you. Please let us know how it goes. I also meant to ask if your Dr has a set amount of infections before they will do tubes? Like mine had said 4 before 6 months due to history but thank goodness we only had 2 by 6 months.

This is a new pedi, so I'm not sure. I left our old one because I had to demand a referal to an ENT for Ethan (after about his 8th infection in 7 months). His ear infections didn't start until after his 1st b-day, which is kinda weird. This is actually Avery's 1st infection, it just won't go away. We also have a new insurance, so I don't have to wait for a referal from her pedi & if this office runs me around like the last one, I'll just take her.

Keep us posted on how her appointment goes. Poor baby. Noah had ear infection after ear infection his whole first year, but hasn't had one since he turned one. Weird.

I agree with the rocephin shots. Ask for it if it hasn't cleared up today. Olivia has been battling an ear infection and the liquid antibiotics were not touching it. We got a shot of the rocephin and a day and a half later they looked a lot better. Not healed, but definately better. Hope things go well for you today and they get it figured out!
