Anyone using their Ergos (or any other carrier) for the back carry position? My daughter is always twisting and turning and lately everytime she is in it, she's turned to the side with her elbow right in my chest. The problem is whenever I try (not that I"ve tried too often) the back carry....it doesn't happen. I"ve seen the videos and I've seen people do it in person. Looks pretty easy...except their kids stay put on their backs while the parents are getting adjusted. Not to my daughter. Squirmy, leaning over the side I'm trying to push her back on...its just a mess. Any tips?

We were going to try it today (on a hike) but wussed out because we want to get a Kelty carrier (or something like that) for hiking....I think if I put her on my back she would pull my hair LOL

LOL my daughter pulls my hair in the front carry! I know she will do it in the back but I'm guessing it'll hurt less than in the front.

LOL. C is also happier on my back because he can look around.

Let's see if I can do this from my phone... He looks upset but the sun was in his eyes.

I just got my Ergo today and tried the back carry and failed miserably. It's probably just as well because I'm positive my hair would be destroyed if I got him back there. He'd probably rip out handfuls of it and eat it, lol. I really have no clue, even after reading the directions, how I could possibly get him on my back by myself.

LOL...I didn't do it without help. I put the Ergo on half way and a friend of mine lifted him into the carrier and held him in place as I brought the other half of the carrier up over my shoulder. I think that once they are older it will be easier because they can hold on. IDK...I'm going to watch the video again and practice.

We use the back carry a lot, but always when we are together and I help get her in there and my husband carries her. I don't think I could do it myself. Our friends just gave us an awesome hiking pack that they weren't using in the city, and it stands up by itself, so I can use that one alone. I still put Stella in the front in the Ergo, but she likes to rip my hat and glasses off.

I back carry almost daily in wraps

For (SCC) Soft Structured Carriers like the Ergo, I do find it more fiddly to get Josh on my back but practice really does help. I'd say firstly get comfortable getting the straps on without the baby. I find that for a SCC it takes me some time to get it buckled up. Practice with a teddy bear getting those straps on so that you're confident. Then practice with baby in front of a mirror. If you're not comfortable get your partner to 'spot' you/baby or do it over a bed so you feel safer.

This website is brilliant for asking questions about slings:

Natural Mamas

You can sign up and go to the Asian Style Carriers section or just General Babywearing section and ask questions there to get tips. They are super friendly and they have helped me so many times.

This is us with a SCC similar to an Ergo

and DP

This photo is also a SCC with a babywearing coat over us as it was raining

And yes, hair pulling does happen:

Good Luck It's wonderful, once you get it you'll never go back.
