Aaron got his bottom two incisors back in February and March and then nothing for a long time. I suspected he was teething early last week and I quickly figured out he had another tooth coming in when he bit me on Thursday. When I finally looked at it it's not one of his top middle incisors; it's one of his top lateral incisors and the other one is very, very close to popping through too.

I always thought the middle teeth were suppose to come in before anything else and I googled it. Dr. Google has declared that I should take him in to a pediatric dentist because his teeth are coming in out of order and he might be missing a set. I'm not panicking because it's not that big of deal in the end but I'm curious if the order actually matters.

So, does it actually matter which order the teeth come in?

Caleb only has his two bottoms but I remember with my DD the two bottoms came in then the two top ones. I thought they were the incisors because there was a gap between them so I took her to the doctors. Come to find out they were actually the middle teeth and I was told they would grow closer together as other teeth came in. Sure enough they did. I wouldn't worry about it but if it's really bugging you a trip to the doctors might ease your mind. Since the babies are so close to their 1 year check-up and it usually takes a few months for teeth to come in all the way, I would ride it out and ask at that check-up.

I'm really not that worried about it, more just curious. There's not a whole lot that can be done at this age for missing teeth anyway.

I'm fairly certain it's not his middle teeth but I'm not a doctor or dentist so I can't be absolutely sure.

They might not be his middle ... I hope you didn't read that the wrong way. I was just sharing what happened with my DD. Anyway, I hope that everything is fine.

I didn't, the thought didn't even cross my mind until you posted it. I'll take another look after he gets up from his nap though.

I'm really not worried, my husband is missing an adult tooth and had a permanent bridge put in a couple years ago. Worst case scenerio Aaron would get orthodontics and then fake teeth. In the grand scheme of things not that big of a deal.

I'm just curious more than anything. I didn't think teeth had to come in, in a particular order until Dr. Google told me so, so I don't know.

Noah got three bottom teeth and then 2 top middle, I think there is a common order but all kids do things in different order.

Lily has two bottom middle that came in at the same time. She has her top left middle and the one right next to it (not the middle one) coming in too. Gonna look funny hahahah

I've been waiting for her top two teeth to come in for the last month. As we speak she is chewing on the edge of the computer desk. My grandmother died at 65 with some of her baby teeth though, so we are REALLY late teethers.

Thanks guys, I didn't think that it was that uncommon for teeth to come in, in a different order but when I was on different sites they made it sound really uncommon and any baby that does it has missing teeth.

Mine has the two bottom and top middle and the top right next to the middle, in that order. Most of the babies I know have been in that order, but like you said, it may just mean a little extra dental work when he's older, but it's not a big deal in the long run.

Josh got bottom two middle, then top two next to the middle, then within a couple of weeks the top two middle. The dentist I took him to said it's not a problem and although not as common it does happen. Sometimes some babies have molars and everything comming through earlier than other teeth. If you want get it checked, but I don't think it's anything to panic about.
