Do you make everyone take their shoes off to come in your house?
We do, but we only started this a few months ago before Ty got mobile. It made me sick to think of my baby crawling around on goodness knows what that was tracked in on peoples shoes.
I have a sign with Ty's picture on it on our front porch that asks everyone to please remove their shoes before entering our home. It says "Ty is inside exploring his world so please remove your shoes before entering"

At our house back home we always made people take of their shoes. We had a ton of teenagers in and out of the house all the time, and the floor would get awful. We have dark maroon colored carpet, so everything would show up really bad. Plus, like you say with Jr we have to be really careful. There can be 50 toys all around, but if he sees one little pebble or leaf he'll head straight for it. lol We all do here, but other people aren't as big of an issue, because we're out in the country, so people don't really stop by like they did at home.

I don't make people take their shoes off but everyone does anyway. Maybe because it's hot here and everyone wears thongs/sandals anyway so it comes naturally to just slip them off when you walk inside.

We ask (almost) everyone to take their shoes off as well. The only exceptions are my Dad (he has severe back problems and needs his shoes for support), and maintenance workers.

I've asked this forever...it's just not typically done here where people don't automatically think to take them off. That said, DH has always been the worst about taking them off anywhere but the front door. Minute that Maggie was mobile, that changed - now they get taken off at the front door and put straight in the closet where she won't be able to chew on them.
Has always made me sick to think what was being tracked into the house on people's shoes.

No, but we should. When we first moved in we had people enter in the side door into the den (it has really rough and tough carpet) but than we started to slack on that and now we come into the living room (ivory colored carpet). Our carpet is horrible and really needs to be replaced. Once we do that then there will be a no shoe policy.

We have a no shoe rule, and DH is super strict about it since Leah came along. I've always grown up with a no shoe rule though.

We always remove shoes upon entering the house, but we dont ask others too. I guess I felt rude asking? Im glad to know so many others ask their company, so I may start doing that too. I love Tyla's idea about a sign that way I wouldnt even have to ask them, they can just see it.

it would never even occur to me not to take my shoes off when entering someone's house. Maybe it's a Canada thing? People always take their shoes off when coming in my house...and vice versa. It's always been like that. I never have to ask.
I always find it funny watching TV sictoms with people walking around their houses with their shoes on. Who does that?

Yup, this is EXACTLY me. When I was younger, I was actuallying dying to wear my shoes in the house because I saw it on tv. My mom never let me. LOL

I always take my shoes off at someone elses house. We are building a new home right now and got the best carpet and pad available hoping hat will make people want to take their shoes off. And if they dont I will ask them. I've also found that having a nice shoe rack just outside the door gives the hint really well that it's a shoe free home

Most people ask me if they should and I say "Yes, please". I hadn't thought about a sign; that's a good idea. We just recently replaced the carpet so I'm going to be anal about it.

We don't make other people do it, but most of the time when they see the bin of shoes by the door and us not wearing shoes, they take theirs off. Ali is contained in the living room at home so if they're just in the kitchen it's ok to have shoes on. We really don't worry too much though.. the cats walk around her all the time and they walk in their litter box.. so she's getting exposed to stuff anyhow.

Yes it works great because the sign speaks for itself

We do, especially now that our house has new carpet and it is very light, we take them off in the garage we haven't had anyone here yet but we will ask them to take them off like at our previous house.

I'll never forget the first time, after I moved to the states from Canada, when I asked my company to remove their shoes please. They were offended that I should ask this of them. Too bad, so sad, right? And the first time I went to someone else's place, I took my shoes off at the door, and they were like - no, don't do that? Why would you take them off? I was pretty stupefied.
It's funny, but I'm pretty much the same way at hotels and such. The less time I can spend in shoes, the happier I am.

Yup. The Canadians don't keep shoes on inside the house. It's definately a cultural thing. No real meaning, but just something we do in our culture. LOL. I'm happy about it. I don't even like the thought of Hunter being on the floor with the carpet from the previous home owners (who had a dog). I'm kinda weird like that. I don't think I've ever had someone come into the house and try to keep their shoes on.
The funniest thing is that if I have to run and get something in the livingroom, but have my shoes on, either I take them off, or take HUGE steps so that my shoes have the least amount of contact on the floors. Even tile and wood floors. LOL
