Holden has THE worst diaper rash ever He's taking augmentin for a staph infection and the stupid stuff is causing horrible diarrhea and an even worse diaper rash. I can't even use a wipe to clean him up. I have to take him to the sink cause the wipes hurt him. I'm tempted to stop giving him the medicine (the infection has almost completely cleared up) but I want to get his Dr's opinion before I do that, and of course...they're closed for the day.
I've been using extra strength desitin and the I have beadreaux's butt paste for the babysitter to use, but neither seem to be working. Ughh its sop frustrating to see it and know its hurting him.

Probiotics and lotrimin are my best advice. They both work quick for rashes caused from antibiotics.

I have had better luck with A & D ointment instead of Desitin. A few friends told me that A&D was better so I finally tried it and it works. Just make sure to get the zinc oxide version with the blue logo. the original formula with the brown logo smells horrible.

its probably a yeast infection from the antibiotics. try the lotramin, or have the dr call in a script for nystatin.
i have bough probiotics at GNC.

I think you can get yogurt with live cultures too, but I usually get probiotics at the health food store. Natalie got a nasty rash like that when they had her on this heavy duty antibiotic for that resistant eye infection she had and the probiotics made a big difference. That and the lotramin because it's most likely a yeast rash from the antibiotics.

I hate diaper rashes. Ditto on trying the lotramin, I wouldn't be surprised if it is a yeast rash. (You can google for pictures if you want to compare) Also, Aquaphor works well to put on top of other creams to create a barrier.

Poor baby! What kind of diapers do you use? I was using Pampers baby dry when Sam started to get a kinda bad rash and i changed to Huggies pure and natural and the rash cleared away quickly and hasn't come back.
