I'm going to run a 5K this summer and am starting training for it, does anyone else want to run a 5K or maybe more?
I'm going to be posting here what I did for the day as far as training goes. I figure this is also a good way to keep me accountable. Liz if you have any input feel free.
Day One, I ran a mile in 14 minutes this morning, I figured not bad since the only running I've done for the last two years is after kids I really need to eat a banana or something before I go because I started feeling sick on an empty stomach.

Great job! I would love to help anyway I can! Like I said, this (coaching/training/running) is kinda what I do.
Are you following any certain plan/program?
I really recommend not being afraid to mix in walking at first to extend your overall distance. Or run what you can, and then walk until you are hitting 30 mins or so for your workout.
Yes on the eating before you go! That's a must.

I'm really thinking about starting a couch to 5K program again soon. I'm nowhere near being able to run a mile yet. I did a C25K before I got pregnant and I think I only ran the 3 miles once or twice and was still pretty slow. But I've got to approach my weight loss a different way (since I've been failing every time I make an attempt) and I'm thinking of ditching the scale and measuring my goals in other ways and making the running (slow jogging at this point) my main focus. So it would probably be a long time before I can actually run a 5K.
I need to get started but I just need a new pair of running shoes and haven't been able to figure out when I'll actually be able to work out.

Michele, do you still belong to the Y? Cause you really can't be the daycare option there! Sometimes it is the only way I work out.
Also, do you have hubby/family around at some point during the day who would watch the little guy for an hour?

Michele - You can do it, I've been getting up at 6 am to go so I get it in before dh goes to work, I've just been running a 1/4 mile loop by my house.
Liz - I don't have a set program, I really should figure something out.
Today I ran 1.5 miles in 22 minutes and then I walked a half mile for a total of 32 minutes. And I ate a banana before I went and I think it helped a lot.

A lot of people love the couch to 5K program. I personally am a big fan of Hal Higdon too. Google that name with 5K training plan.
Keep up the good work Kelli!
Oh, just thought I would sympathize with your early waking up. I had to get out the door by 7am today to beat the heat. You still "win" as you are getting out there at 6...but I'm still kinda with you....and hate it but love it when I'm done.

I've had a busy couple days and a few rough nights so I slept in Weds and Thurs but did do some strength training videos. Today Noah woke up at 5:30 so I just went running when he went back to sleep and had the same times as Tuesday.
Liz - I'll google those, thanks.

Way to fit it in despite the busy days! And strength training is awesome! You will accelerate weight loss if you keep that up. (More muscle will eat more calories even while you just hang out)

Ok, so yesterday I ran two miles and walked a quarter mile, then today I did strength training. I've decided my schedule will be running Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Strength training on Tuesday and Thursday. This allows me to get a little more sleep as I can do the strength training during afternoon nap time and Saturday I can go running whenever I want as dh is home all day. Sunday is a day off.

Awesome plan!!! Can't believe you are already up to 2 miles! I think the 5K will be too easy for you, haha! (10K ??)

I'm doing a 5k tomorrow, I hope I make it, I haven't done much running the last couple weeks due to stomach flu last week and a couple other issues this week but Sunday at church when they announced I felt compelled to sign up. I'll let you know how I do. I'm hoping my next one will be in August with my mom and sister.
