My plan all along was to begin cow milk at 11 months, which is what her pedi and I discussed. I got to thinking today that is only approximately 3 1/2 weeks from now .

My plan is to just go straight to milk then but if she refuses it at first I will still give formula until she is 1 then go cold turkey.

Formula moms, when do you plan to stop bottles?

When will you introduce cow milk?

Will you do it slowely or cold turkey?

If you are nursing/pumping will you offer cow milk AND BM or just BM?

If you are nursing/pumping will you stop at age 1 or let them self-wean for as long as they want?

When will you introduce cow milk? My doc suggesting waiting until she turns 12 months. I problem won't start any earlier.

Will you do it slowely or cold turkey? I will slowly introduce like I did with my first

Juliana is lactose intolerant so we'll probably stick with 100% breast milk until 1 year and then introduce a little bit of almond milk. I plan to nurse for a while but I wouldn't mind weaning her during my work hours. It will probably be a pretty gradual thing, though. I may just start having the nanny take almond milk with her when they go out and still nurse when she's near me. I guess we'll play it by ear.

I'm planning on waiting until 12 months then probably a gradual transition. Honestly, though it depends on how it works out with our WIC. I know I will be getting store brand whole milk, but I'm thinking of buying organic whole milk for him instead, even though it costs twice as much.

Mariah, are other kinds of milk (rice, almond, soy, etc.) just as suitable or beneficial for babies as whole cows milk?

Ty is breastfed and I dont have plans to stop so to speak anytime soon. I am sure he will nurse at night and for comfort for a long time yet. He really likes nursing.

When will you introduce cow milk? I am in no hurry to introduce cows milk. Julia and my twins were on formula until at least 18 months. Then Julia went to Silk soy milk until she was 3 y/o. I do not plan on putting Ty on Silk soy milk though, unless he cant tolerate cows milk like Julia couldnt. I dont have an exact time to introduce cows milk, just no time real soon.

He will drink water and juice in his sippy cup.

If you are nursing/pumping will you stop at age 1 or let them self-wean for as long as they want? self-wean for as long as he wants...within reason

Im really not sure about this.
Eva is breastfeed and im going to be going to uni when she turns one so she'll be in child care 2-3 days a week. I dont want to pump in the day so ill start supplementing with milk but not sure if i should go to cows or soy or what first.
In fact, i said i'd stop nursing at one but i really dont know how to go about stopping.
So yeah.. no idea in department haha

I'm not really sure, I know we won't be going to whole milk anytime soon --- DH & I are both lactose intolerant so we'll probably be doing almond milk or soy milk as well.

I also don't see her weaning anytime soon (and that's fine with me) I also don't mind pumping in the evening for her to take BM in a sippy. I really want to do a little more reading and talk to the pedi too, I think ours says 12 months as well because one of my girlfriends babies just turned a year and she has pictures of her holding a milk carton haha

I plan on taking away the bottle around 12 months. Aaron can't tolerate dairy or soy so we have to figure out which type of milk to put him on. Probably rice or almond milk and we're just going to have to make sure he gets enough fat from else where. We'll do it gradually to make sure he doesn't have any issues digesting it.

The pedi said soy milk can cause almost as many problems as cow's milk so she recommended almond but I think rice milk should work, too. I also have a huge freezer stash of BM so I may just use that for a while. I'm not sure when to try her on cow's milk given her issues. I guess I should have asked at our last appointment.

I was told most babies outgrow their lactose intolerance. My pedi said it would be okay to use cows milk with scarlett

I plan on gradually transitioning to cows milk at one year. I'm trying to find sippy cups that he likes, too.

We started the milk transition a few weeks ago. I stumbled all over it the first time I tried, but we're doing great now. She's still getting it all in bottles. She's really sloppy with the sippy cup still, so I'm not sure when the bottles will be weaned, but milk is almost 100% there.

She's getting probably 1 formula bottle still each day. I have a can and a half of formula left to go through, so I'll transition over to milk 100% when that's finished up.

When will you introduce cow milk? Probably around a year.

If you are nursing/pumping will you offer cow milk AND BM or just BM? I'll offer both we'll see how it goes.

If you are nursing/pumping will you stop at age 1 or let them self-wean for as long as they want? Honestly, I'm hoping he'll self-wean shortly after he turns one, but I have a feeling he'll still nurse for a while. Dh wants me done now, but I told him it's silly to transition to formula now just wait until we start milk.

I'm going to introduce cow's milk after she turns a year old. I'll probably start by putting it in her sippy cup with meals, and then slowly replacing her bottles as well. I'm not into mixing milk and formula, lol...too much work. She's been doing really well with holding her sippy cup, so I'm hoping to forgo the bottle around a year as well.

I also thought that lactose intolerance was something many kids outgrow. How do you know your kid has it? Will you wait a certain amount of time and reintroduce?

I think I'm slowly planning to wean starting at a year. I think my supply is already hurting as we have had to occasionally supplement (my workouts were killing it and now the heat...ie running in the heat....just took it down another level.) I think I will start out trying a bit of regular milk in a sippy during the late afternoon when my supply is the lowest. Then, we will probably replace the night time BM bottle with regular milk as I work at night and that would allow me to stop pumping.

Honestly, I think I'm looking forward to weaning and getting some of my independence/ ability to leave the house with prior planning back.

Caleb is kind of already off of bottles. I bought Nuk sippy cups, took the silicone sippy nipple and use them on his Nuk bottles. So he has a bottle with a sippy nipple. I have already started on whole milk too. Caleb gets 6oz of formula and 2oz cow milk in every sippy. He will be 100% off formula by his 1st birthday. Right after his eye surgery I will try to transition him to a more traditional sippy.

Caleb has sluggish bowel syndrome so I have had to give him Mira Lax since he was born. Since he has been getting cow milk he no longer needs the Mira Lax.

We will totally play this by ear. But nothing before a year. My older DD is really lactose intolerant still(shes 3 now) so I don't know if Olivia can tolerate cows milk or not. Shes been on lactose free formula since she was tiny, so I really have no idea. I guess we will switch to regular formula maybe at 11 months, give it a month to see if she is ok with it, then try milk. But we just aren't huge in the milk department here. My older DD gets a pediasure-type drink each morning, that has all the nutrients and stuff she should get, then we work in fats elsewhere, like nut butters and things like that. Soy mimics estrogen in the body and estrogen-dependent cancer runs in my family, so we stay away from that. We may use some almond milk this time around....really though just playing it by ear.

We're sticking with formula until she's one then will switch to cow's milk. I had talked with the pediatrician at our 9 month visit about this and she said the primary reason not to switch early is the iron. It's difficult to ensure they're getting enough iron in solids, so sticking with the formula does. Made sense to me.

Bottles and paci are hitting the road at one too. It should be interesting with bottles because she has ZERO interest in sippy cups. Throws it on the floor. Alas, we still try.
