CPR?

with all our little ones exploring and eating pen caps, buttons off calculators I was wondering who could save their little ones life and if you do know it, would you be calm enough to do so ?

When Mason was little he choked on a mushed up strawberry, he was in his highchair and the whole family was sitting around eating dinner. Next thing I knew he was turning purple and I was so frantic my dad pushed me aside and started it. I did not stay calm But I think if it happened again I would handle it better. Its sooo scary.

When Stevie was younger he started choking while in his car seat. I was terrified. i called 911 and started to perform the Heimlich. The operator told me to stop since he was making some noise.

I could perform CPR (maybe not the right number of compressions) but it would be sloppy because I would be so frantic and scared.

I've had to do the finger hook a few times to clear the back of his mouth.

I somewhat know it. Like I know the basics, never had to do it and never took a formal class on it. In the event of needing to do it I probably could.

Yes, I know CPR but my certification has been expired for a few years and it's always changing so I am sure I'm not up to date.

I know infant CPR, took a class at the hospital right before Jackson was born. I used to know child and adult CPR too, had to renew it every year due to working at Day Care centers, but like Carrie said, it's expired now and they always change it so I would need a refresher.

Anyway I know the basics. Not sure if I could do it well as I would be freaking out, but I'm sure my instinct would kick in and I would HAVE to at least try. So scary to think about.

I've taken CPR I'm not sure how many times now, but it's been a while. I'm not sure what the recommendations are now, but I'm sure I could do something. I've had my kids choke before so I'm pretty calm about that one. I've not had a bigger kid choke so not sure how well I'd handle a bigger one choking, but the little ones have scared the crap out of me before.

My DH freaks out every time Ellie makes a noise that could remotely sound like choking, so I dunno how well he would do. I've taken CPR and first aid classes when I worked in daycare but my certifications have been expired for quite some time. I don't know how calm I would be if I had to do it on my own child either.

I am taking a CPR/First Aid class next week. So I will know then. I have to know it since I am starting a daycare. But I should know it anyways.

Like others, its been a while since i did the training, but i do feel confident that i could perform it on my girls if need be. Occasionally i think about it and trace through the steps of what i would need to do just to stay mentally prepared. I actually think i would be more nervous to do CPR on a stranger than on my children because of the strong mommy/protective instinct.
