Besides going for walks, what do you do with your LO outside?

DD always wants to play in the backyard. But I'm not sure what to do with Wyatt while we are out there. He has a swing, but that only lasts so long. He's not walking yet, so I'm not sure if he should be crawling on the grass. We've had a lot of rain recently, so it's stilly quite wet. I've tried the pack 'n play, but that didn't work - this boy likes to be on the move! DD was not mobile her first summer and walking for her second summer, so this is new territory to me. I'm always amazed by the little things that stump me!

Hunter isn't crawling either. He loves the swing. He also loves to sit and kick his feet in the gravel at the park. I hold him though so he isn't close enough to grab it. He also loves when I turn on the bubble maker. I can't wait for warmer weather. He'll just sit and splash in the pool forever!! LOL Oh....and he loves being pulled in the wagon. He sits on the floor between the two seats with DD on one seat. I give him a toy and I walk facing the wagon so I can watch that he doesn't try to lean over the side. I should mention too that he loves to sit on the grass and pull it out. He loves the texture.

My problem is Wyatt doesn't like to sit and do much to too long. He's always crawling somewhere. I guess I'm just worried what he'll pick up on his hands. We don't have a cat, but our yard seems to be the meeting place for the neighbourhood cats. Who knows what they've done in our yard!

Oh bummer about the cat thing! Some people will put a pack and play, or one of the larger play yard type things outside with toys etc. Keeps them up off the ground.

Also, I totally read walking as crawling, sorry. LOL. I guess I really just don't expect that anyone's LOs are walking, but some are! Eeek!!

There's a lot of great hiking trails here in OR, the weather is JUST getting nice (I think yesterday was the 1st time this year we broke 70!) so we've been doing that everytime we have a nice day.

Yesterday a couple of girlfriends and I hiked Pilot Butte pushing our babies. The path is paved (it spirals up) but OMG it's a challenge pushing a stroller! We also brought blankets and had a picnic with the babies.

EDIT - I have to share a picture!:

The black mountain the background is Black Butte, DH & I hiked that our first summer here---we're planning on taking Sophie in June when it opens up

I took the girls to the park yesterday and today (just 10 mins ago) we had a picnic outside on the blanket with our neighbors. Im blessed with 2 great neighbors who have young kids, and we're all SAHM's (well, 1 work PT but is home by noon everyday). As long as it's nice we are outside all day doing anything and everything. Most of the time we even eat dinner outside in the summer.

We are having the coldest/wettest spring on record here in Seattle so we havent been able to be outside much at all. Not happy about that either because dh and I and the kids love to be outside!

What we have been outside so far, dh and Julia go out and I either put a pack n play out for Ty, and / or hold him, or I go outside with them while he is napping. When we get to go to the park he will be in the stroller, and when we go to the beach/ocean, then he will be in his travel stroller, play yard, pack n play ,etc.

I also would not let Ty crawl in the grass, but when he starts walking then he can walk in the grass.

I just let Charlotte crawl in the grass. I do have to keep a close eye on her, she ate grass and sand yesterday. Lol. When i get tired of telling her no, i put her in the umbrella stroller. She loves being outside. Last week she "helped" Daddy plant the garden. Lol

Oh wow, we live outside. I used to lay a blanket down on the grass but now he crawls off it. I think it's good for them to get a little grubby sometimes and to feel different sensations.

I agree, but I like them to be a little bit older.

Jr loves, loves, LOVES being outside. Any time he's really fussy, I come outside, and he calms almost instantly. He mostly loves his swing, or his little red beetle bug car that we push him in. Sometimes here at the house we take his yard gate thing out, and put a blanket under it...that way he can't eat the grass...he loves putting grass, and dirt in his mouth. At the park, he loves the swings, and going down the slides. With him it doesn't really matter as long as he's outside. He even loves just sitting in the stroller while I'm working outside.

I was so worried about germs, and everything with my first but now with Kaileigh Im so laid back. We do put a blanket down but just recently she has crawled off of it and gotten into grass, dirt, leaves, etc. It's good for them to explore outside as long as its safe, and the parent is watching them good.

Honestly, I spend an awful lot of time senior sitting with my mom and grandma. So most of her adventures have been of the shopping and lunching variety...

I've put her in her umbrella stroller while I weeded the garden out front, but when I get going in the back, I think I'll either use the pack and play or let her roam in the grass. Her grandma gave her a big ball. So I'll put that out with her and some toys likely.

We're also geared up for starting our family evening walks once the rain stops. We'll head over to the parkette and get her going on the swings.

Great grandma has also gotten us a pool (12ft x 2.5 ft deep). So when we set that up next month, we'll get her out in the pool a bit too.
