Kinley had a follow up appt today to see how her weight is doing. She weighs 16 lbs 2 oz which is less than one pound more than what she weighed 2 months ago (15 lbs 5oz). She has been eating tons of solid foods and continues to nurse every 2-3 housrs, if not more often. However, she nurses on only one side for about 5 mins.
I guess I should not feel too bad because she has finally started to drink out of a bottle, though she hates formula. I have been trying to supplement in addition to her nursing. My plan now is to mix formula with breastmilk to try and get her used to the taste. Other than that, I dont know how to get her to drink longer at the breast and i feel like my supply is not enough for her age. I dont know for sure, but i pumped out of both breasts today and got only 2 ounces.
Oh and the doc said I shold NOT try to get her to sleep through the night that she needs to continue nursing as often as possible. That is fine, I will do whatever it takes, but it is obviously not ideal.
Ugh. So frustrated.
Can anyone else tell me how they got their babies to bulk up? I dont think i am the only one who has struggled with this.

Alison only weighs 16.4lbs. (she is 27 and 3/4") She also has not gained much since her last appointment, I think probably right in line with Kinley. She nurses and eats tons of solids also. My pediatrician is not worried about it so far. Is your ped using the newest growth charts to track her? My peditrician said it makes a pretty big difference. Kids he would be worried about on the old chart look fine on the new one. Here is a link to it. http://www.who.int/childgrowth/stand...irls_p_0_2.pdf In kg your DD weighs 7.3kg. She is still on the chart. If you put her other weights in does she fall to a lower percentile? If she is staying about even and has always been a lightweight I wouldn't worry about it.

I wanted to add that how much you can pump is a very poor indicator of how much milk you are making. Babies are wayyyyy more efficient than a pump.

(((HUGS))) I'm sorry you feel so frustrated.

I know that at this age, when they are becoming much more active, their weight gain slows down a lot. Claire was up in the 50-something percentile at 6 months, and has dropped into the 30s. I really think she is healthy and just burning more calories because she is up and going all the time. Claire's pedi suggested giving her fatty foods to help her gain a little faster. She suggested avacado, which Claire loves, and also putting butter on pasta or bread for her to eat.

Hang in there and go with your Mommy instincts!

(ETA: Wow, my pedi must have the old growth charts!)

This is true but that being said, 2oz is pretty good if you are nursing full-time. You won't pump as much as she eats because, well, she is eating it all!

Stevie was small and the dr suggested adding rice cereal to his bottles of pumped milk.

Unless the dr says to bulk her up, I would just say she is small and will be fine as long as she is happy.

Thanks so much ladies! Cara, I don't know which chart her pedi is using, but after every appt I feel freaked out because I am always expecting her to finally put on more weight and she never does. Melissa, I think you are right that she is much more active now and burning more calories. I was looing at kellymom yesterday and saw a chart on the amount of fat and calories in common baby foods and avacadoes were much, much higher than anything else so I am planning to start stuffing her with avacadoes!
Julie, thank you, that is very reassuring. I am comparing the amount I was able to pump for Kayla who refused to nurse, so that is not a good comparison.
An update: mixed BM with formula yesterday afternoon hoping to get her used to the taste... She took about 2 oz of the mixture. Then in the evening went over to a friends for three hours while DH kept the girls and during that tme Kinley took almost 4 oz of formula. I am ecstatic!

She's probably just on the petite side. Don't worry, as long as she's eating and is healthy and happy I wouldn't worry so much about her weight gain. It does slow down at this stage. She's got the cutest chubby cheeks, so you've gotta be doing something right!
Miranda is only 17 1/2 lbs and she is a little piggy when it comes to food. They burn it so quickly now that they are active. Maybe you can introduce a bit more solids into her diet??

And YAY for Kinley taking the formula!!!

Ditto the above. Macie is only a little over 16lbs, but she eats great. My ped knows my kids and they all have a tendency to be thin and so far Macie is know different. He just looks at the curve on her chart and as longs as it's consistent says he's not worried.
