Tommy gets so constipated, he has a hard time getting it out. Yesterday I had to take of his diaper and push on his bum to help him get it out. It was so big and hard it made his bottom bleed a bit. I tried giving him water and prunes. He was up screaming at 4 am again trying to get the bm out. I feel so bad for him, any recommendation on how I can help him go more easily?

I know some parents won't do juice at this age, but a little prune or apple juice diluted with water might help.
I know if I give Brendan bananas he is guaranteed to go. Maybe call the ped?

I bought some prune baby food stage 2 it was mixed with some other fruit and Rosie enjoyed it. From what I tasted it was alright.

Is he eating a lot of bananas?? That would be constipating, I would lay off for a while. Prune juice or even just some water should help. if nothing helps ask your pedi if you can add some PEG powder. it's a stool softener and it should be safe for babies.

Thanks for the advice. I did give him prunes which he loves btw, which is weird because he doesn't really like baby food. Then last night I had the biggest poppy diaper ever. I am going to have to watch on the bananas and I switched from the pre mix formula to the powder, that may have been the issue too. I hope he can get more regular, we have his 9 month check up in 2 weeks. If it is not better before then I will cal to see if we can come in earlier.

I had no idea bananas were supposed to be constipating.. they definitely have the opposite effect on Brendan... unless it's coincidence and is because of something else he is eating. I'll have to keep an eye on it.
Good luck Kristy!
