Do we have any moms who currently home-school? If your Aug baby is your only baby do you plan on homeschooling? With all the cuts that are happening to school's budgets and the reports showing how poorly many of our students are doing does this make you consider homeschooling if you hadn't before?

I've been homeschooling DD1 for 3 yrs now. It is great! Of course there are financial sacrifices we make and we barely get by but DH was homeschooled, private schooled, christian schooled and public schooled and when we met he said "we will homeschool no matter what". So, I said ok. And it's been really nice. I will start homeschooling DS for "Pre K" in the fall. And then 3 yrs later will start with Heidi.

I have no interest in home schooling...nothing against it, it's just not for me. That being said, I will not simply leave my children's education up to the schools, they will definitely be learning a lot at home.

I have no interest in homeschooling. Its just not for me. However if schools are failing I will supplement at home as needed. I do think its very important for parents to be involved.

I am not interested in homeschooling either.
I am a school teacher but I do not want my kids to go to public schools. This whole No Child Left Behind is a disaster and it is ruining education in our country.
I also want to add that as a teacher, you can tell which students have parents that are involved. It's silly to expect that schools can educate your child completely. They need parent support to be successful.

Im thinking about it. Mostly because im not a fan of the school district we are in, so unless somehow we end up rich and can afford private school, I am probably going to homeschool them until we move, but im hoping we will move in the next 4-5 years so i may not need to worry about it

I honestly would love to but I don't feel like I am capable of giving my oldest what he needs structure wise for schooling. We did homeschool for pre-k where he learned letters and counting and that was just a pill to get him to sit and listen to me.
So while not a total fan of the schools up here, we'll be sending him. I think he might do better in that setting then at home where he is easily distracted by things he enjoys. Even after I set us up in a small area where there was nothing.

I will not be homeschooling, my dd is in second grade in public school and does wonderful. I also spend time with her at night going over her incorrect school work from the day and help her with her homework. I would say I am involved with her education, she does receive all A's so that is great.

I'm a teacher and if nothing else, I want Ellie to receive the social benefit of attending school with her peers. Like others have said, I can really tell who is working with their kids at home and is interested in being involved in their child's education and those are the students who do well. I am not a fan of No Child Left Behind and what it's doing to the education system, but I do think that children can still be successful in public school with help at home.

I homeschooled my oldest two in 1st grade. They're now (along with my 2 other school age DD) in private school and as long as we can afford it that's where they'll stay. If we reach a point where our finances won't sustain it, then I'll homeschool.
I didn't mind it so much, but my girls had already been in private school for K5 and they really missed the social interaction. If I do ever homeschool again, I'll definitely join a co-op so they'll still have lots of opportunities to hang out & make friends, go on joint field trips, etc...
