Does anyone plan to make a garden? What do you have/will have in it?
We are going to be doing a raised garden bed. My neighbor put her's in a few days ago and Im just waiting for payday tomorrow to go get mine. We're doing tomatoes (dd1 eats cherry tomato's like candy), green pepper, green beans, and strawberries. I couldnt think of anything else. I want lettuce but I have no idea about planting/tending lettuce. We are also going to be doing a container pot of carrots for dd1 to tend too and it needed to be deeper then our raised is.
Anyone else?
Here is an image if your not sure what a raised bed is.

We have done green beans and tomatoes every year we've been here but since we're moving to an apartment we can't do a true garden this year. We're going to have two green bean plants and one tomato plant in pots with some herbs on our balcony. When we buy a house next year we definitely want to plant an actual garden!

Our back yard is really tiny. We've talked about putting in a raised bed when the kiddos are big enough to be interested in it. I think I might have trouble getting Ethan to stop digging in the dirt after the plants are in... I want to can green beans & tomatoes this year, but I will buy them from the Farmers' Market so that I can buy big ammounts at once.
When I was a kid we had a huge garden. We had tomatoes, carrots, green beans, cucumbers, potatoes & peppers. Mom has downsized but still grows some tomatoes & peppers. She has jalapeno peppers in containers on her deck so that she can make/can home made salsa every year. So good.

Yes, we have raised beds too, but I think they need to be built up a bit more because certain plants didn't do well in there. We'll do tomatoes---probably 3 or 4 plants, including a cherry tomato (Bella's FAVORITE!)---and lettuces. Our guinea pigs love romaine lettuce and it is SO easy to grow...saves us a few bucks. Our in-laws have a HUGE garden and we get a lot from them. They are big into canning, so that's why they grow so much.

I've been talking about it for years and something always comes up. This year we're moving so it doesn't make sense again. I do container gardening instead. Usually one with herbs and one with cherry tomatoes.
Lettuce is supposed to be super easy. In the next place we'll have one. They say plant what you will use and what will naturally prevent insects from harming them. So, I like to plant basil, and will do rosemary and thyme too this year, maybe oregano and parsley - but I'll probably plant mint with it, because it manages infestations better.

Ive never even touched lettuce in a garden, so do you recommend a plant or seeds? I use tomato plants, I've never started anything with seeds. Im horrible at getting things to grow...lol. so I so the easy way. Do they even make lettuce plants? I'd love to do it because we eat a lot of salads know dont know anything about growing it.

ok, I googled it and its not best to do lettuce in a raised bed but it is with using a large flower pot like we are doing with carrots. So maybe I'll buy an extra big pot and try lettuce. I just hate spending so much money on veggies. We buy tons of tomatos, and green peppers, and I do make my own salsa so maybe I should plant 1 hot pepper plant too. Once this is all set up on Friday, I'll take a pic and show everyone. Im so excited about it!

We did lettuce in our raised bed and didn't have a problem. I gave a few plants to my neighbor and she put hers in a pot and they did great too. I've never done them from seed, just from plants.
On a side note, homemade garden salsa is soooooooo good! I adore it! My in-laws can it and I can go through a jar in less than a week. They also make a sort of fresh salsa (can't remember what it's called) and they put their green chilles in that. It's heavenly!

We have a small garden and I always plant too much and it gets too overgrown! This year I promise to plant less and take better care of it.

We are attempting to plant a garden, I've gotten it almost dug up but now that it's rained a week straight I'll go over it again when it's done raining. We're doing carrots, cucumbers, corn, green beans, broccoli, peas, and a few other things, I let the kids pick out a couple packages of seeds each, I'm already praying that we get some produce out of it.

Our garden is 40'x80' this year, so we are doing 2 rows of cucumbers, 4 rows of green beans, 34 tomatoes, 4 mounds with 3 pumpkin plants each, 4 mounds with 3 watermelons each, some strawberry plants & 3 rhubarbs, 4 bell peppers & 4 jalapeños. And i am thinking of doing lettuce. We have 2 ducks, so they will like that. lol

We are doing a garden this year too. We usually plant cherry tomatoes, reg. tomatoes, cucumber, peppers, zucchini and strawberries. I love gardening!

I would love to have a little vegetable garden, and also some nice flowers and plants. But, maybe I'm weird, we only have chain-link fence around our yard, and I HATE going out there because I don't like the feeling I'm being watched. We hope to move within the year, and wherever we move to will have a privacy fence - then I'll probably be more inclined to spend time outside and start up a gardening hobby
