Yep, good ol' AF arrived for the first time post partum. I have super mixed feelings about it.
1) Too bad she didn't go away forever
2) I'm glad she showed up because I have PCOS and went years without AF because my body was out of whack
3) I need to get birth control RIGHT now because I am NOT ready for another baby now or possibly ever (I had the mini pill at one point but then did hung my coat on lactational ammenorhea...but I'm bad at taking the pill since adding a baby to my life.)
4) The crazy part of me thinks that as much as I don't want another baby, IF we were to have a second baby, it would be way more practical for many many reasons to have one now versus later. Why doesn't practical match up with my feelings?
5) I feel sick to my stomach which never used to happen with AF before. Hope that's not a new PMS symptom.

Well, hopefully your body will be more regular after having Emmett. Having or not having a 2nd baby is a huge decision. Personally, I say that if you're not 100% sure, then wait. You may feel differently when Emmett is done BFing or after he turns 1 or... who knows. The point is it's easy to change your mind and decide to HAVE a baby.
I'm with you on the BC thing. I would probably be preggo again in 2 months if we weren't careful. I don't like the pill, so we're using spermacide until we make a final decision on having/ not having #3.

I'm really thinking of the IUD. But then I get scared of the horror stories of heavy bleeding and clots.

Ive only heard those stories with the paraguard not the mirena. I know Heather has the copper iud and has that but Holly and I both have mirena which has a synthetic progesterone and we dont even have Af's at all.

Ah, the witch is back! I've been having phantom AF's for the last 5 months or so, as I happen to be right now, and this one is bad enough that I'm starting to wonder if today or tomorrow the real thing will arrive.
I totally get your mixed feelings about AF, and especially about having a second baby now vs later (only for now I'm hanging in there with my crazy job so it doesn't make sense for me to get it out of the way).
Try not to think too hard about it for the next couple of days. Your hormones will just mess with your head.

Ooh, good! That's hopeful info.
So...how does it work? Do you set up an appointment and talk about it first and then go back for a second appt and get it put in later?
Also, have you ever had trouble with it falling out?

I've never had any trouble with it. Ever. Im on my second one. I had my first removed in Aug, and was pregnant in Oct so it had no impact on my fertility.
I had a consult, and you have to answer questions, and then the Dr will make sure you are a good candidate. They will order one, and set up your apt. I think it took 2 weeks to get it? Then it's inserted. Post apt I think 1 month later then just your normal yearly check ups they will check it.
Edt: My first dr recommended placement DURING af, but my new ob said it doesnt matter if you've had a child your never fully closed. They said that when your on af your cervix is open more so insertion is easier. I did find that to be true for me though. Ask your dr when he/she prefers to do it.

I just laid back they inserted the "duck looking thing". She swabbed around, and felt where my cervix was. Then as she put it in it was like a sudden pinch. It did hurt but it only hurt for like 30 seconds. I was so tense which she said tensing up makes it worse (Im sure thats just Dr talk to get me to relax). Then I had some bleeding and cramping for a few hours and that was it. Removing was a piece of cake, no pain at all. After she inserted it she took me to the u/s room to confirm correct placement, but I've heard that isnt routine though.

I'm probably the only one who was happy to get AF back. Don't get me wrong, I hat it...but I hated the weird way I felt when I didn't have it 100x more. I felt like my hormones were all messed up and getting AF back brought me back to "normal"...at least the version of normal I'm familiar with! I felt more like myself when I first started getting it, but it was sporadic since I was pumping. I totally felt like myself once I stopped pumping and it became regular...its actually more regular now than it was before I got pregnant, so maybe that'll happen with you too Liz? Of course, I don't have pcos, but it was still all over the place before.

Yep! I have had both, Paraguard was SUPER heavy AF. MAJOR clots. Hated every minute.
Mirena is the greatest birth control ever. Seriously.

Yes, BUT you can get a cervical block!
The 1st time I had an IUD (Paraguard) I didn't get anything, it pinched BAD. I mean it was way bad, like almost a big contraction bad. Plus that OB had like the biggest fingers ever
2nd IUD I had was Mirena (before Sophie) and I told my OB (a different one than the 1st) that I was afraid he wouldn't get it in good. So he gave me a cervical block. Didn't feel a THING. I don't even remember cramping.
So I did the same when I had it put in after Sophie, although my OB here thought I was silly...he was like, "You just had a baby and you're scared of this???" haha...

You have a greater risk of it falling out if you've never given birth vs. if you have....which doesn't make sense to me! LOL

Ugh...AF came back this week for me too. Not much to chime in here other than to say that I felt nauseous off and on the day before and haven't felt well in general for the past few days. I suppose it's just my body getting used to the witch again.

I have PCOS too Liz so I know how that goes with the wacky cycles and not having AF for a long time. I was super excited though when I got mine last week, but we are also officially ttc so I guess that's why

I have AF, everything about it. I get such terrible migranes so I'm on BCP's so I just keep taking them and not the last row so I never have a period. I've had one since the twins were born and I love it. I probably need to go ahead and give myself a break and have one, but ugh. DH's has had a vacestomy so I don't need to even be on the pill. I hope you'll get more regulated.
