Anyone's baby battling allergies or are you afraid that they will battle them? Especially allergies to food.

Daniel seems to be allergic to most citrus fruits and strawberries. I've not tried him on a lot of other fruits. He can eat pears and apples just fine, but breaks out and sneezes up a storm when he has strawberries, oranges or mangos. This breaks my heart because my DD is SUCH a huge fruit eater. I hope he grows out of it.

Also, reading some of the food ideas threads I saw that many of you have already given baby peanut butter or other tree nuts and even honey. I'm surprised. I am really afraid he'll be allergic to nuts and we've always been taught not to give honey to a child younger than at least 1 because of the risk of botulism. Has anyone had issues with this?

Yes!!! Caden, my 4 year old, has the worst allergies and asthma. He is on 5 meds to control both. He also is allergic to ALL nuts. We had a scare 3 months ago. He ate 1 cashew (didn't realize he was allergic to nuts at the time) and within 3 seconds. His throat closed up, he started having trouble breathing and broke out in a horrible rash. He was hospitalized overnight. I was driving at the time and thankful I was right next to the hospital. It was the most scary thing ever!!! He know has to carry an EPI pen with him at all times. So I haven't given London any peanut butter and I will probably never give her tree nuts or other nuts anytime soon.

Stella is already allergic to dairy and egg. I haven't tried strawberries, mangos or citrus yet. I was allergic to citrus as a child and generally since she is sensitive I want to delay introducing potential allergens. I haven't tried tree nuts. I hope she grows out of it.

no foods yet -- but bad reaction to sunscreen.

I haven't given nuts, honey, eggs or strawberries yet. I'm so nervous about a reaction - so I don't want to risk it.

Aaron is allergic to dairy, soy, and bananas so we're avoiding all the high allergen foods until after he's allergy tested at 12 months. It's tough to come up with meal plans that avoid all the major allergens but we've gotten creative.

We're also pretty sure he has mold allergies (I have them too). We're fighting mold in our house right now and he's been fighting a stuffy/runny nose for the past couple months. We're moving in less than two weeks so hopefully that will be the end of it.

I don't know if she is allergic to any foods but she has sensitive, eczematic skin.

I haven't given her honey or pb yet but I've given her almond butter. I thought that was ok? At any rate, no history of food allergy in either of our families. She seemed to be ok with the little bit of strawberry and citrus fruits that she has had as well.

None that we know of, we've also given him pbj and he's done fine with it. He's also had strawberries, but not honey or eggs. But neither dh or I have food allergies and neither to any of the older kids.

My oldest has horrible seasonal allergies, and can't drink cow's milk, she only drinks soy milk. So far Kaileigh isnt allergic to anything, nor does she have seasonal allergies that we can tell.

My pedi told me that allergies (especially food) tend to run in famililes & since no one in my or DH's family have any kind of food allergy, it's doubtful the kids will. Ethan eats PB&J all the time & gave some to Avery about a month ago. She's definitely had baby food w/ strawberries in it & stuff I've cooked that has egg in it (not just plain egg though). I don't do honey for awhile b/c the risk there is from botulism, not allergy.

We haven't done honey for the same reason Mandy listed. We also have avoided peanut butter more because of the choking hazard then for allergies. He has had eggs and was fine. Both my kids and I have seasonal allergies. The kids get zyrtec.

PB is a choking hazard? Even the creamy kind?

In my mind it is. It's sticky and gummy and Caleb shoves stuff in his mouth like he's never going to be fed again. LOL
