Avery has had three diagnosed ear infections. They never seem to bother her. We only catch them because of other symptoms. It's usually a really runny nose & a cough. Last time her eyes were crusty and we thought she had pink eye. Once we go to the doc, we discover it's another ear infection.

Her most recent one, she was on amoxicillan (spelling? you know, the pink stuff) for 10 days. A few days after finishing, that's when we noticed crusty eyes so we took her in. They said the ear infection was back & put her on a different antibiotic. She couldn't tolerate it and kept vomiting it up, so we started her on ANOTHER round of a different antibiotic. She finished this last week.

Now, she has a runny nose and is coughing again, which as I said have been symptoms in the past. I really hate to take her in again but at the same time hate putting it off in case it's getting worse. I am worried all of these antibiotics are going to make her resistant.

I really don't know what the point of this is, I just wanted to vent I guess, and also ask does anyone else's LO suffer from these chronic ear infections??

Awww poor Avery. I'm sorry she keeps getting all those ear aches. Tommy has only gotten one so far and the antibiotics took care of it. But he does gets a runny nose and red eyes a lot but I think he has allergies.

Awwww...poor girl! My DS had chronic ear infections when he was little. When he was 2 we had tubes put in his ears and his toncils removed. It made such a difference. He was a germ magnet before, now he hardly ever gets sick. I would recommend to take her to an Ears Nose Throat specialist. Maybe it's her toncils that are keeping the germs and re infecting her all the time. That kept happening to me when I was growing up. I was on antibiotics all the time.
I'm not sure how young they do the surgery, but both my DS and DD#2 were 2 when they had theirs taken out. It was the best decision we ever made.

Lyla struggled with ear infections for awhile and they never seemed to bother her either. She would get a cough that wouldn't go away and we discovered that was her indicator! We had her on augmentin for her last infection and it worked great, cleared up the infection and she didn't throw it up. Unfortunately she is allergic to penicillin and can't take it anymore. You might want to ask for augmentin.

We are in the same boat here. Alison has had 3 ear infections, all in the last 3 months. I have also taken her in two other times and she has been OK. I've pretty much started to take her in anytime she has a runny nose. I wish I knew enough to buy one of those things to look in her ears myself.

My oldest also had a lot of ear infections and luckily she grew out of them by the time she was two or so. My doctor told me we will wait and see how Alison does when cold season comes around again, she may or may not grow out of it. If she does have them again next winter she will most likely need tubes.

Thanks ladies!

Her cough got worse so DH just took her in and yup, ANOTHER ear infection. I am so frustrated. I am also annoyed because I feel like the doctor's office should have been scheduling follow up appointments (with any babies, not just mine!) to check to see if the infection is cleared. I am thinking about looking for a new doctor because this experience has led me to feel like they just shuffle us in and out and don't really care about Avery's health.

So anyway, she had to get an antibiotic shot (my poor girl ) - I am glad DH and MIL had to deal with that and not me. I hate seeing my girl in pain. But I am glad we don't have to deal with trying to force feed her oral antibiotics.

They also gave us the name of an ear, nose & throat specialist per DH's request, but apparently the appointments for this place are 3 months out so it's possible she'll have to deal with this chronic infection for three months! Ugh.

I can't believe they didn't schedule follow up appointments. With each of Lyla's ear infections, we had 10 days of medication and then a follow visit a week after the medicine was finished.

I hope she feels better soon. I know how it is with specialists. Here we also have to wait at least 3 months to be seen. It's totally ridiculous!

Liam is on his fourth ear infection
this time its a double!
he doesnt really present with symptoms until im guessing its a ways in
like this time i only took him because he was waking up in the middle of the night two nights in a row (thought it was due to his tooth coming in) but figured mine as well take him
my dr also does not schedule a follow up appointment either, this time we'll luck out because he has his 9mth appointment next friday
it really sucks though, i hate having him on all these antibiotics

My Dr always schedules follow up appointments. I would especially want them if my LO didn't have many symptoms with the infection. I hope it doesn't take forever to get into the ENT doctor.
