Accidentally posted this in the June board but that's okay! The more opinions, the better....

DH and I just bought our first boat...on a whim. Well, actually, we've been thinking about it for some time and finally decided to act on it. It's just your typical boat with cuddy cabin for cruising our local finger lakes.

We do not have any plans to go speeding along the lake, just nice leisurely cruises and a few picnics but I'm curious to know if any of you have plans to take your LO's on a boat this summer? Have you boated with your other LO's?

We have all the required safety equipment and the proper life jacket but I just want to make sure we're doing the right thing. If I have to leave him behind, I will leave him behind but I am optimistic that it will go well, at least for short intervals.

Any boating Moms with suggestions?

We sold our boat before we got pg with Julia (we thought we were going to have to pay cash for IVF so that was the boat money). But my dh's step-dad and late mother, have boats, and when we went to OH and FL where they live/lived, when Julia was a baby we took her on them. My step-FIL has big really nice boats and he drove them fairly fast and Julia did just fine We also took my niece out on our boat when she was a baby and she also did great. I think babies like boats, or at least the ones in our family do. Have fun and enjoy your boat!!!

My kids love the boat and spend all day almost every weekend on one.

Last summer I was too nervous to take out Stella, but this summer we will.

We took Kaileigh out last year at only a few weeks old. My oldest was out at about 6 months old. Both girls have jackets. I had to order the infant one on line though and it's for 7lb-21 lbs (I think). We will be going to the lake memorial weekend and will be on the boat again. I say go for it as long as you have a safety device thats age/weight appropriate.

Get a good sunhat too! We plan to go out on the river when it warms up!
