So, what I'm learning is that there is no "real" strategy to this baby proofing thing. I'm doing my best and my "strategy" has been to sort of follow her lead REALLY closely, with the most obvious things being addressed proactively of course. I wish I had been a bit more proactive.

This morning we came across a thing that could have honestly taken a very bad turn, and I was certainly very lucky - so I thought I'd pass it along in case others haven't given it thought either.

I didn't think about my houseplants. I have a golden pothos on my kitchen table, and had not actually realized that one of it's vines had grown down long enough to be reached by Miss Maggie while she sat under the table, nor had I even thought to consider it might be toxic. Around lunch time I noticed torn leaves on the floor. Maggie is one of those children who puts EVERYTHING in her mouth, and chews on anything, and will often chipmunk things in her cheek for chewing on later...I'm counting my blessings that she doesn't seem to have tried to eat this plant after tearing one of the leaves. But this was a really close call.

I'm researching all my house plants and am removing the ones that aren't safe now. Please make sure yours are safe or out of reach!

Yes! Thanks for that reminder! A LOT of house plants are poisonous to children AND animals.

It sucks because like 3 of our neighbors are hardcore into their yards, I think the one guy is retired and I swear when I drive by some mornings he's on his knees talking to his tulips. He had green grass when everyone else on the block had a dead mess from the snow, lol!

I honestly can't have indoor plants because our Weimaraner would eat them....I'll just blame her for now haha

Me too! I'm guessing it was a matter of cosmic good timing. She literally tries to eat EVERYTHING. I remember calling to her from the other room and heading her way because it suddenly got just that little bit too quiet...hahaha. Here we go!~

I tend to find the things I can't kill and keep them going forever and ever...this was one of those plants. I'm doing much better with the outdoor container gardens. Had a few good years with that, and I'm getting more confident. The miracle grow is truly miraculous!

on the fake stuff, I have a couple of those too for the spots that don't get a lot of light. I've had to be strategic with them too because Maggie likes to eat the grass in the bottom of the pots, and figured out how to pull some of the leaves off the branches she could reach.

I don't have any house plants at the moment & am very glad! Ethan was way more interested in his toys than house hold stuff. Avery... not so much. This child is into everything!!! I thought I had the house pretty well kid-proof from Ethan; boy was I wrong. I had to spend a weekend following her around baby-proofing in her wake after she started crawling. DH says some of my baby-proofing is also husband-proof.
