I need some support! Lyla is sick. She started coughing like crazy on Thursday night and was running a low grade fever. We took her to the doctor yesterday (Friday) and she has a virus which is causing the sore throat. Now today she is running a temp between 102 and 103 and is just pitiful. She only wants to cuddle and sleep with us. Any ideas besides Tylenol on getting her temp down?

So sorry to hear that!!

From what I understand it's not a bad thing for her to have a fever unless she's lethargic. It is important to let her immune system do it's job correctly, and also remember babies tend to naturally run higher fever temps than adults do.

If she really seems to be struggling beyond her and your comfort, you could try the wet sock method. I've heard it works wonders, and is a drug free way of helping LO's out.

I've used a cold wet cloth or a cool bath it usually brings the temp down some. I really stinks when when our babies are sick, hang in there.

I hope she starts feeling better soon. I would let the fever run it's course and only give her the tylenol if she's miserable or the temp is really high.

Herbalist Lisa Zahn: The Wet Socks Treatment

How to Lower Fever By Soaking Your Socks | eHow.com

I learned about it from a nurse during my childbirth education classes. I've never had the opportunity to try it, but other women in the class were raving about it.

I will have to try it out the next time around! Luckily, Lyla's fever finally broke around 5pm. She was instantly back to her normal self!! YAY! She went back down for the night and I'm hoping she's healthy and happy tomorrow!
