I'm having one of those days where Emmett is into everything! And I don't know how to tell him "no" with any sort of understanding. His latest is he is pulling the floor vents off. I can't think of a way to child proof those. He pulls the metal grates off exposing a nice little hole down to the ducts. The hole isn't big enough for him to fall through, but is big enough for him to throw things down and/or get a leg twisted. Grrrrr.
How do I teach "no"??

Well they way London learned was by me saying a stern "no" and redirecting her. Eventually she got the hint. Now she will attempt, but then look back at me with a smile.
I do the same as Shantel. I started very young by saying "No ma'am" And giving her something to play with or removing her from the area. Now when I says "No ma'am" she shakes her head no and crawls to something else.

Ditto with Charlotte too. I dont do the redirectinh bc she screams bloody murder if i do. So i just sternly say, "No, Charlotte." Sometimes i have to say it 10 times, but she is learning and will stop & play with something else. It takes patience & persistance.

Uh, yeah....you could say Emmett is defiant. I say "no" firmly and remove him from the area and give him another toy/activity. He thinks the whole thing is hilarious and crawls back as quickly as possible.
He will even look at me before he touches the vents while hovering his hand above them. When I say "No, please leave the vents alone", he slaps them with glee and tears them out of the floor!!!
