Hey ladies, Just wondering if anyone who is familiar with baptism and godchildren can educate me as I am unfamiliar with this. DH and I were asked to be godparents of our new nephew and he will be baptized in a Lutheran church next month. I think I remember others posting in the past about getting gifts for godchildren when they are baptized and I am wondering if anyone can tell me what type of gift is customary for an infant boy?

Oh goodness you can do almost anything. My son's Godmother bought his baptism outfit and his Godfather bought him a frame that was engraved with his name and the date and said Baby's Baptism or something like that one it.
My DH is a Godfather and when his Godson was baptized, we got him a silver cross with a nice saying on it and had his name engraved and then got him a new toy and a handprint kit. Those are just a few ideas I have.

We didn't have godparents for Claire, but when we had her baptized, someone got her a book of Bible stories that was written for kids with cute pictures. I thought that was a great idea, and Claire loves it. She loves to point to all the animals in the Noah's Ark story

For Adeline's baptism she recieved a baby bible, a cross that we hung in her room, and a baby bracelet with a cross pendant.. You can give pretty much anything, she also got a few pieces of clothes. Try to find a local religious store, we have one in town that has tons of gifts just for baptism!

You can offer to buy the outfit or give a gift of a rosary, first bible, gold necklace with a cross....those are mostly keepsake items. Or just do $$$. My uncle, whois my DS's godfather, started a fund for my DS for his college and he puts money into it for his birthdays and christmas instead of presents. I think pretty much anything goes.
