I went in today for an ob/gyn appointment to talk about birth control options. DH and I are unsure if we want any more kids, so we want to get on a good method of birth control. I had the mini pills for a while but I was TERRIBLE about taking them...and you literally have to take those the EXACT same time everyday for maximum effectiveness.
I'm thinking I want an IUD but they have to special order it in and do a pregnancy test and another appointment to insert it...so at least another month.
I decided to get some Nuva rings while I decide for sure if I'll do the IUD. My ob was awesome and recommended trying these first while I set up the IUD stuff. (or even push the IUD back a few months to give these a good try.)
Anyone have them? Thoughts? (haven't actually filled the prescription yet.)

That's so funny (well not funny for you) that they have to special order it!
I haven't heard anything about NuvaRing other than it makes people "b*tchy" LOL
Once I wrote on my FB wondering about it and I swear I got like 234324 responses and a ton had something about it made them wayyy PMS'y! haha...but I would take that side effect over some of the other ones any day!

My friend has the ring but she hates it. TMI but she said it makes her "wet and leaky" all the time which makes her feel yucky. I really do think different BC works for some but not others, so give it a try! I still recommend the IUD though

Not to give TMI, but that was my exact complaint about it too! I used it for about 3-4 months. Also, I couldn't lose ANY weight while I used it, no matter what I did. I would also be wary because it has been linked to DVT (deep vein thrombosis) and pulmonary embolisms! Just be sure to do all your research!

I just talked to her a little bit agoabout it, and she said it just makes her CM change so much, and she always had to wear liners no matter what , and sometimes pads because its so bad. She's no longer using it and is now using NFP to prevent.

Ug, haha. Well, I'm all about trying it myself to see. Like I said, if I hate it from day 1, I can just make an appointment to get the IUD...but I better use the rings until then. I'm afraid to get pregnant again, haha.
I will pick them up on Wednesday when I'm up at the base and let you guys know!

I used Nuvaring after I had Grace. I didnt care for it. Remembering when to take it out, put it in, the act of putting it in...plus I have learned that all hormonal BC methods give me migraines. I now have a copper IUD. The first 4 months AF was very heavy but now I love it.

Blah...I think maybe I'll just make myself try it for a week. I asked about the copper IUD but my ob/gyn recommended Mirena because she thought it would help keep my PCOS in check a bit more.
I'm not going to lie...I'm still so intimidated with the idea of putting the IUD in and the whole string checking business!

Lol...my midwife put mine in at my postpartum checkup and I didn't feel a thing. As for checking the string...I just check once a month right after my period ends. It's not bad...inserting the Nuvaring is a lot more ...um....messy..for lack of a better word.
Wanted to add...just be ready for a heavy AF and some break through bleeding the first few months.

Wanted to add - when I stopped using the NuvaRing, I got the Mirena IUD. With the Mirena, you pretty much either love it or hate it. I've heard people rave about how great it is, but my experience with it was TERRIBLE. I spotted/bled the entire 18 months that I had it in. Couldn't leave the house without a backup tampon, and I never wanted to have sex because I always felt dirty. It just got to where it was actually affecting my quality of life, so I went in to have it checked out, and the Dr discovered that the whole time I had it, it was positioned improperly and was basically embedded in my uterine lining. She couldn't reposition it, so I told her to just take it out right then and there. Crazy thing was, I actually felt "free" once I walked out of the office that day. I remember her last words of wisdom for me - "You will be fertile again immediately." Lo and behold, Leila was conceived within the following week (I guess I thought she didn't mean IMMEDIATELY immediately lol)
Anyways, enough of my ramblings - to each her own. Again, it might be the perfect option for you, but for me it was terrible. Although... I have considered getting it again, just making sure it's actually inserted correctly. I think if it had been, I would have loved it.

Ugh, birth control is so annoying. I'm going to make hubby get snipped after the next kid. Let us know how the ring works out for you! I never tried it but I used to fill it a lot...never heard complaints from those who used it.

Personally, I wasn't a fan. I had it back in 2005 before we started to TTC the first time. I spotted a lot with it. And it would come out at some very, um, inconvenient times. I didn't notice being moody/crabby with it, but I did put on a few pounds while I was using it. I had been on other hormanal BCs before & hadn't had any issues with gaining weight.
I've determined I don't like hormonal BC & I'm not gonna use it any more.

Us too. Actually, DH wanted to get clipped now as he is so sure he doesn't want another kid. So it's really me forcing him to wait for a few years until we are 150% sure.

You can get a cervical block when you have the Mirena inserted! (It numbs your cervix, you can't feel a thing---I swear)
Although some women think that's more uncomfortable than the actual IUD insertion, but it allowed me to not tense up so they could insert it good. Haven't had any problems. I've had IUD's put in with and without the block, I won't do it without a block again.
