Juliana's not in daycare, but our nanny has been working out really well. She thought she was going to get married and needed her last day to be tomorrow, so we made plans for my mom to come here for the next 8 weeks to be our nanny until we found someone else. Well, the wedding is off but she's going to work for a temp agency for the next 8 weeks until we want her back, since it works out so well for everyone. She's really good about keeping Juliana happy, probably more so than I am! She's very patient.

Emily is out for the summer but when she goes back in august, she will be in the toddler room

I really like her daycare but still feel guilt leaving her every day.

Sydney is not in daycare as of yet. I just found the daycare she will go in (July 25th she'll start full time). I had put her on the waitlist here August of last year and just found out on Monday she got in! Super excited -- I've heard nothing but good things about it. We are going for a visit today and I may start putting her in a day a week starting July 1st so she gets used to the transition. It's right near our house and has great hours. It was really hard for us to find one since I travel for work, so we had to be accomadating to DFs hours (he starts early and finishes late). This one opens early enough for our schedule. Hopefully it's as good as everyone tells me! Not freaking cheap though! I don't know how people can afford more than 1 kid!

It's hard with having jas and desi in. Jas goes to preschool in that same school. I pay between 275-293 depending when they go. thats the little thing they do for us. we dont have to pay full tuition if they dont come full week. but its still hurting our pockets.

I find this is when a lot of parents here are looking at the live in nanny situation or the home based daycare options. The nanny is more expensive, but when you factor in that they're taking care of 2 kids instead of 1 and helping with housekeeping/meals, it's a more cost efficient idea. The home based daycares are significantly cheaper and get cheaper again when the kids grow into just before and after school part time needs.

It is ridiculously expensive though for sure. Are you taking Sidney to PeekaBoo?

I was a daycare mom with my first. She was in daycare starting at 6 weeks because we had to have two incomes. It was crazy expensive and 1/2 of my checks went to daycare the other went to pay cc bills. We after realizing where our money was going we made it a goal to pay off cc bills, because we wanted another baby so we told ourselves as soon as we are cc free I can stay home and have another baby.

There is no way we could ever afford daycare for two kids. I know they say daycare workers dont get paid much but I dont see how when they are bringing in lots of money.

BTW- I loved the daycare Kaitlyn went too. She started off at 6 weeks until 6 months in a home daycare, until she was picked off the waiting list. Then I really loved the center she went too. I think liking the place and teachers make it so much easier. I had full trust in how they took care of her.

Yeah its pretty steep! We pay about $1000/mo in daycare for my two kiddos and that's including a second child discount and another discount because the provider and I are buddies!

Daycare for us is going great, the girls only have 7 more days there though before they get to stay home with DH for the summer. I am kind of bummed because I really like Rachel's teacher and I've enjoyed my morning ritual of getting them to daycare and then sitting down to nurse Rachel and just chat with her teacher. After almost 9 months of doing this, she's become a good friend and I'm really going to miss that time!

Daycare for the two girls, like everyone said is SO expensive...We're getting a company discount of 15%, but without it, it their tuition would be over $2000/month.

I thought about in-home daycares, but I like the structure and curriculum (and constant accountability) of where they're at and I don't want to do the Nanny route because I don't want someone in my house when I'm not there (and the whole structure, curriculum, accountability issues!).

When we left our first daycare in 2008, we were paying $1275 for DD in the toddler room! I couldn't believe it. Now we're with a non-profit centre and in addition to it being way better it will cost about $1300 for both kids in the fall (Wyatt full-time, DD every other day).

Glad to hear everyone is having a good experience! I'm with you guys....daycare is pricey!!! The going rate is about $800/month around here...so again, can't imagine going back to work with anymore than 1 kid!

We had a good experience with daycare when Emmett was in (first 6 months) but I was glad we stopped when we did because I didn't particularly care for the teachers in the next room up.

the one I got Syd into is $50 a day ($1000/month). when she turns 18 mos, she goes into the toddler room and it reduces to $40/day (so $800/month). Craziness!

Becky -- no, we are going with one in the catholic school here. She's been on the waitlist since Aug and just got in.

Wow day care is WAY cheaper around her. The going rate is about $110 a week for up to one year old and then goes down to 100 a month at 1 year. I love her day care. There are only 4 kiddos in her room and her teachers are great!

For some of you where the daycare is crazy expensive, have you looked into a nanny?

The daycare where I would have sent Juliana was $930/month and what we pay the nanny comes to about $1,600/month (she's by the hour and I WFH so I can take advantage of nap times, otherwise it would be a bit more). Of course it's a lot more expensive when you have one but if we had two it would be about the same or cheaper and she does some cleaning, grocery shopping, etc. for me. My favorite part is not having to get up earlier to get Juliana ready, and not having to worry about germs!
