My LO woke up at midnight really congested and with a runny nose. Same thing today, it appears that he has a cold and he threw up his entire bottle this morning. Other than that he seems fine and has since had another bottle with no problem. I called the Pedi this morning to see if I should bring him in. Im just wondering what you all would do in this situation? Maybe I am too paranoid? I'm sure he is fine, but I'm a first time mom and am not always sure when to call the Dr. or not. His snot is a little greenish in color so I just want to make sure there is nothing else going on.

He probably threw up his bottle because all the gook from his cold gagged him. It is such a hard call on when to take them in. My DD gets ear infections with most colds so I usually end up taking her. Of the last 3 times we have gone in she had an ear infection with one of them. I always feel a little silly about it, but it is so hard to tell when their ears are hurting. My best advice is to just go with your gut and give a call or go in if you think you might need to. It is no big deal to go in and have everything check out OK.

Poor bubs

My advice is follow your gut. If you feel you need to take him in, then do so. If not and you want to wait a day or two to see how he does, then wait. I follow my gut all the time even if it turns out to be nothing. Hope he feels better soon!

Call the dr. if:
- he has a high fever that won't go down even with Tylenol or lasts a few days.
- If he is having trouble breathing or won't stop throwing up after 24 hours.
- If he's pulling his ear or not wanting to eat/drink....that could be a sign of a throat or ear infection.
- If he is crying all the time or seems lethargic.
Those would be warning signs that something is definately wrong.
Other than that he most likely has a cold and should start feeling better in a few days. Babies do tend to throw up if they are congested.
But you know how your baby best, so anything out of the ordinary is usually a signal that something is up and you should go with your gut feelings. It can never hurt to have him checked out.

I've spent so much time at dr.s offices and Hospitals with my kids I'm not rushing anymore. A cold has to run it's course and so does a fever or a stomach virus. Sometimes they get rashes that are infectious and those too will take time. I hate sitting in waiting rooms and hospitals with small children, so I only go now if I really feel that my child will not get better without meds.

Just my 2 cents!! Lyla's runny nose has always been accompanied by an ear infection. She has never run a fever with any ear infection. I wouldn't be too concerned about your little man throwing up his bottle because it was probably just too much with all the gunk (as a pp said). I think the copay for the sick visit is worth my peace of mind. Go with your mommy instinct and let us know what you decide.

If it were me, I would go. But Holden's colds always turn into ear infections so I always take him so that he can get something for his ears.

Hi Ladies, thanks for all the advice! I did take him in. When I called, the nurse asked me to count his breaths to make sure they were at a normal rate, and told me to look out for retracted breathing. This all freaked me out so I decided to go in. The dr. said there is no problem with his ears so it is just a cold and he gave me some tips on how to treat it. I did feel silly at the time because my LO was smiling and playing and appeared perfectly normal in front of the dr (except for lots of snot dripping out). Last night he got worse though, and I was up all night. If I hadn't talked to the dr I would have been a lot more anxious during the night so I am glad I did.

Don't ever feel silly going to the dr., even if it turns out that it's nothing. It's better to get checked out than to be sorry later. Hope his cold gets better soon!!
