About 4 am I woke up and I thought DH was having a bad dream. He was making weird noises and shaking. I kept trying to wake him up but it didn't work. Finally I went around the bed and saw that his eyes were rolled back in his head and realized what was happening. The scary part is that we were co-sleeping and Juliana was right next to him, sleeping through the whole thing. I scooped her up and called 911. They sent 7 paramedics, which seemed a bit overkill. DH was really out of it for a while and would not cooperate with them at first. I can't blame him; he woke up and the first thing he saw was 7 guys standing around his bed. Finally they determined that he did have a seizure and he needed to go to the hospital to get checked out. His vitals and blood work were normal, and the MRI was inconclusive so they're sending him to a specialist. We were just released from the ER and are waiting for the specialist's office to open at 9 am so we can make the first available appointment. Until we can find out what's going on, I have to drive him everywhere. Luckily he works close by, only 2 miles away. It's been a challenging morning and we're all very tired, but hopefully we'll get some answers soon. He's never had a seizure before and has no family history of them, so there's no obvious reason why this happened.
Update: We can't get in to see the specialist until tomorrow afternoon, but after thinking about this some we suspect this is actually NOT his first seizure, just the first of this magnitude. There have been several times within the last few years when I told him he had a bad dream and I couldn't wake him up. There was something very familiar about the sounds he was making during the seizure. We've done as much research on this as we could and we found out about a type of epilepsy where seizures only occur at night and they are often mistaken for bad dreams. We have a feeling that is what he has, but we'll find out what the doctor says.
Until we have answers, not only do I have to drive him everywhere but I won't let him watch Juliana or hold her unless I'm standing right there. So no getting away to do stuff on my own. I also had a hard time sleeping last night and would wake up with every little noise he made, afraid that he'd have another seizure. It sucks, but it could be a lot worse.
The worst part is that if he does have this form of epilepsy, it's genetic, so Juliana may end up with to too.

Oh how scary!!!! KUP!!! Hopefully it was a one-time thing and won't happen again.
My friend who had no history of seizures had one at the mall when we were in college...it was so strange, she hurt her finger on the car door a few minutes before that, nothing major. But we were walking to the ATM and she said her whole entire arm felt kinda numb. Then at the ATM she fell forward, hit her head, fell back on the ground, and started seizing. I started screaming my head off and everyone else just stared dumbfounded (thanks everyone else ) until someone called 911. They never determined what caused it but my dad thinks it has to do with her finger...that her blood pressure dropped or something. She hasn't had one since, and this was over 10 years ago.

My friend's mother had a seizure from low blood sugar and her father called her crying and she said it scared her so much because her dad was so scared. I can't imagine. I hope you both figure out what's going on. It had to of been a seizure I would think. Keep us updated.

That sounds so scary! Im glad he's doing ok now. I'm hoping it's not something that will happen more, and it was just a crazy fluke. KUP after he sees the specialists.

How scary! Hope everything is OK.
I know here -- after 1 seizure, you automatically lose your driver's license. You have to be seizure free for 1 year to get it reinstated.

That is so scary! I have a cousin with epilepsy and it is terrifying when he has a seizure but, other than that, he's perfectly healthy. I hope you get answers and that it's all good news.

Omg that sounds so scary! It sounds like you stayed calm throughout! Let us know when you find out what is going on.
A friend of mine had a seizure in the night. Luckily her boyfriend was there. Anyway, it was literally a one off, and she hasn't had one since, that was about 3 years ago now. Hopefully its just something like that for your DH

That is a terrifying thing to wake up to! Keep us posted on how it's going.
Is there any chance someone he works with can pick him up on their way? If you only live 2 miles away I'm sure someone probably has to pass by on their way to and from work. A little gas money would help them, and save you time from loading up Juliana to take him to and from work every day.

Has he ever been bothered by these little seizures, or "bad dreams" in the past? I mean, obviously, we want our children to be healthy, and not inherit our bad genes, but if it's not disruptive to his life, or hazardous to his health, even if Juliana inherited it, maybe it won't be quite so bad, especially if she has a heads-up about it ahead of time. If that's what he ends up having, are ya'll going to have her tested for it too?
I am sorry you don't get any time for yourself right now, I know that's got to be really difficult. Do you have any friends or family around that could help out a little?

You know, the seizures before weren't that bad obviously because he didn't even know he had them. Yesterday morning's was pretty bad because he woke up more sore than he'd ever been in his life, in a pool of urine, and had bitten his tongue badly. So I guess it just depends on their severity. Also, he could hurt himself by falling out of bed and hitting his head on the nightstand or something. Luckily he hasn't done so far. It's rare, but another thing to worry about with seizures is swallowing his tongue.
IDK about whether we'd test Juliana. I'm thinking probably not, at least not until we had to go in for something else. I wouldn't want her to be poked and prodded unnecessarily. We'd just have to make sure everything around her bed was extra safe.

I have a student who has night seizures so I was actually thinking of bringing that up to you. My student doesn't have them all that often luckily. Her only side effect is difficulty getting her words out the next day (I mean most people wouldn't notice because it just seems like she is thinking before she talks). I hope you guys can get some answers quick!
