So Arie never had a baby room but she is getting a toddler's room...whether or not she'll sleep in there is another story! I keep going back and forth about what to do about her bed...I really doubt she'll sleep in her crib. So I"m thinking of just doing a mattress on the floor, maybe a full-sized? I go back and forth between the twin and full... Her crib converts to a toddler bed but we have to buy a $60 rail to do that and I don't know if it'll be worth it when she is used to sleeping on a mattress on the floor anyway. Eventually I would want to raise it up until its a normal sized bed but not until she is older.

But then the big problem is she might be all over her room instead of staying put in the bed. I guess we'll see what happens. I was thinking I wouldn't try until she was a bit older, like 18 months, but now I'm thinking I can sleep with her in her room while hubby sleeps in our room, since he wakes the both of us up anyway when he gets ready in the morning. I guess that's another reason I was thinking a full bed, so there is room for me too. But if she starts sleeping well then I will just pop out and see how she does. Again, I don't have a time frame for this, just at some point in the upcoming year.

So this is kinda weird, but I was wondering if any of you have any ideas/suggestions for a toddler's room? I'm guessing its just the same thing as any kids room, furniture and stuff, but I don't know if I should just minimize the sheer amount of accessible things in her room because she won't be in a crib.

Hmmm..Well, if she has a free standing book shelf I advise you to secure it against the wall. Make sure all lotions, creams, bath items are placed up high. (yes my child covered herself in desitin once or twice as a toddler). Make sure if she has a toy box it's finger pinch free and wont slam down on her. Make sure you have toys and books low enough that she wont WANT to climb to reach any. Plug outlet covers are a must, and if she has blinds make sure she can not climb on anything and reach them. We use these .

We stopped using the changing table at about 18 months so we got rid of it, but this time I dont have a changing table. We just use that changing pad on top of her dresser so we'll keep that there until she's potty training.

About the bed. That is something you will have to determine whats best. We put Kaitlyn in the toddler bed at 15 months. She HATED her toddler bed. She would get up and fall asleep on the floor, or in our spare room she would climb up in the twin bed and sleep. This was all when she was about 18 months. So finally I just put the twin bed in her room with a rail. Also because she would sometimes get up and wonder around we put a baby gate in her door way. At first she would get up at play but with in about 4 months she stopped, and we didnt need the gate.

I still have Kaitlyns toddler bed saved. I will try that with Kaileigh but if she hates it we'll just move to a twin like we did Kaitlyn.

I advise you find a way to lock her closet. My 2 yr old took any/all chances to empty her closet of clothes. She cant now bc she doesnt and wont have a closet in her new room. But i had to pick clothes up at least once a day bc her closet didnt have doors.

All good advice. We took all the furniture (except a full sized bed) out of DD's room. We put sliding covers on the outlets and got locks for her closet. We also put a secure (it's screwed into the door frame) gate right at her door. Make sure curtains are secure and up out of reach...we draped them up over the rod. Also, we have low windows, so we are careful not to allow toys DD can climb up onto in case she were to fall. DD made the transition from crib to bed at 18 months because she wad climbing out of her crib. We were trying for another baby so just got her a bed instead of converting the crib.

It will take a few long nights to get her used to the set-up so just be prepared. We like having the full bed because we can use DD's room as a guest room.

I remember crying the day we turned Kaitlyn's room into a toddler room. It was very sad for me. I'm NOT looking forward to that with Kaileigh but she's been going into her room by herself so I think I'll be toddler-proofing it in the next few weeks. I need to put some things UP out of reach and move other things down so she wont climb.

Awww, I think I'm excited because she's never had a room before. Of course, she'll be moving out of our bedroom, but I have a feeling hubby will be more sad than me. lol Who knows though, I seem to get randomly emotional so maybe I'll be sad too.

So after combing the internet for weeks, I finally chose her bedding!! I'm going to hop to the store today to see if I love it in person too...its crazy, this is so NOT what I thought her room was going to be, but now that I know "her" and see she is a sweet little girl who loves birdies (among other animals), I can't think of anything else that I like as much for her.

This is WAY more expensive than I wanted to pay for her bedding, but I'm hoping its good quality and lasts for years. Of course, its white so that's not ideal for a toddler . I am in love with the little birdie rug too.

I absolutely adore that! I also understand what you mean about not sure who she is until she is older. I did butterfly's with my oldest and once she got of age, I found that is NOT her. She is a retro, bright color's, diva so we changed her room to match her personality. With Kaileigh her nursery was flowers and butterflies, and once agian that is NOT her personality.

Hope you like it in person. Cant wait to see her room done

Haha that's so funny!! Is Kaileigh's personality the same as Kaitylns? I'm sure in a few years (or maybe sooner than I realize), Arie will be like "Mom, what's with the lame birds?" LOL I mean, seriously, I was thinking bright, fun, non-traditional for her bedroom all along but we are making the garage a crazy and fun playroom for her, so now I'm thinking soft and sweet for the bedroom. Hopefully sleep-inducing.
