Owen has been napping. In his crib. For an hour now. Oh happy day! The past 2 weeks he's decided that he would either take a 20 minute nap in his crib or he'd only nap on mama. I'm so happy. Mama really needed a little break.

On the subject of sleep, how do your LO sleep at night? Owen was a great sleeper after the colic ended & before teething began but since then, he's gotten progressively worse. He's always been a sleep fighther. In March, he started sleeping for only an hour or two at a time. So, I spent most nights on the couch with him so that DH could get some sleep (he has epilepsy & has to get enough rest to keep the seizures at bay). Then he got to the point where I couldn't even put him in his bed. He'd wake instantly and cry, reaching up for me. We tried CIO a couple of times, but neither of us could stand it and he cried to the point of making himself sick. We recently put him in bed with us, out of my total desperation for sleep, but we still end up on the couch most nights after just a few hours. I'm getting enough sleep, but I would love to be able to put him down at a decent hour, in his crib, and actually have some time with DH as well as some time to myself. I hope it's something he grows out of, but at this point, I'm not terribly optimistic that this will happen any time soon.

Vincent sleeps pretty similarly to Owen. We've been part-time cosleeping since about 6 months. For naps I usually take a nap with him or he's sleeping on me or beside me. At night he will usually fall asleep between 9-10 and sleep in his crib for a couple of hours. He does the wake up and cry thing multiple times a night too. Eventually I'll take him in bed with us for several hours until he starts getting restless again and then I'll go sleep with him on the couch so DH can get some more sleep (he's kind of mean when he doesn't get enough). I'm hoping we can get him to sleep more in his crib some day but who knows when that will be.

Welcome (sorry I'm slow with this - you have a realy cutie pie). I'm Becky, and Maggie turned 1yr old on June 10th.

As a rule Maggie sleeps really well. Teething is my nemesis though, and every time I tell someone how well she sleeps, teething makes me a liar. So I guess now I should prepare to be up a couple times tonight. She sleeps in her crib in her own room though, and has done since we brought her home.

Juliana has never slept well and teething makes it worse. We have her crib side-carred to our bed and she sleeps in it. This is as of about two weeks ago; before that she slept in our bed.

It's funny how you mention your DH has epilepsy. My DH had his first seizure ever in the middle of the night just over 2 weeks ago. It's too soon to diagnose him with epilepsy because he's only had one, so we're just waiting and hoping he doesn't have another one. I know he had gone to bed very late the night before. His MRI and EEG were normal so we have no idea what the cause was, but I suspect stress and lack of sleep contributed. Of course, there must be something else going on because I've been stressed out and haven't slept well for the past year and I've never had a seizure! I've never really asked my DH for help at night and now I'm glad of it.

Anyway, back to the crib issue. I found with Juliana she would wake up with the sensation of being lowered into the crib. When we side-carred the crib and put it to the same height as our bed, I would nurse her to sleep and then very gently move her into the crib, which is the same height. She tolerates that much better. Maybe something to think about instead of sleeping on the couch?

You dont want me to answer this :/ Both my kids have been the best sleepers ever since birth and I mean 10+ hours straight at night since about 3 months old.

Congrats on that juicy nap!

Jamie's changing a lot lately. He' just started walking regularly in the last week so as expected his night waking has increased from twice a night (SO jealous of the moms who can go all night w/o getting up, that's just to good to even consider over here) to three or even four times a night. But we've also been doing some serious sleep training for the past two weeks and I think we're really starting to see the payoff. He has slept 3 hour naps yesterday and today! I COULD NOT believe it! He's been putting himself to sleep off and on for the last couple days too!

He only sleeps in two to four hour increments at night with his longest being 6 hours a few nights ago. He slept through the night maybe twice when he was 2 or three months old. I'm dying to know what it'll take for him to STAY asleep.

Fingers crossed with the sleep training!
