Has anyone started feeding their babies/toddlers hard crunchy foods like apples and carrots? I asked my pedi when I can start and she said I can go ahead and start. It just seems like such a departure I'm a bit nervous!

Yeah, but I still steam them a little bit---and some types of apples I peel. Sophie only has two bottom teeth, haha

Well uncooked carrots are a choking hazard I do believe and I still won't allow my 4 year old to eat them uncooked. I probably won't be giving her whole apples until she gets a mouth full of teeth and I will peel them. I do occasionally give her the lil graduates diced apples though, but they are really soft. I'm sure other mommas will do things differently but i'm real BIG on choking hazards because of past experiences.

Not to say no one knows about the foods, but I myself was surprised by some foods on the list and the age they recommend

With apples, i peel them and then either dice them (think kernel of corn sized) or give the whole apple and let her bite pieces off. She only has 3 teeth, so she wont get too big of pieces. We dont do uncooked carrots yet. Cucumbers are peeled and cut into coins.

Eva's had raw apples but not raw carrots. I give her quite big chunks and she only bites a little off. If any sometimes, they are also great to throw on the floor.

It wont be for a very long time. Now if I steam them and they are soft yes, but hard crunchy...nope.

Caleb only has 2 teeth so we haven't started with the harder foods yet. Grace is 3 and just started eating raw carrots this year....I also still cut her grapes in half

I think I'll hold off on the carrots for now unless they are steamed or boiled... Yeah I was suprised my pedi said that. I think another thing to consider is kids might not be the best to gauge whether something is well-chewed and Arie likes to actually walk around while she is eating (she'll lean in for a bite of banana for example, wander a bit, come back for more, wander a bit, etc) ...I know that's a bad habit and I should break it.

You might want to try plums! They are super easy to peel and are soft. I like plums more than apples with Sophie, they don't make me as nervous lol
