So of course, after my "LOL Arie is so funny when she squats and grunts and poops!" post, she developed constipation...or probably was having it all along and it escalated. Yeah, not so good with those mommy insticts!

I'm thinking its probably from the cow's milk she is now drinking. Anyone know for sure how much milk babies this age should be drinking? All I know is my pedi told me not more than 16 oz/day to prevent anemia. I want to give her maybe 8-10 oz a day and a cup of watered-down juice instead..I just don't know how much milk a 1 year old needs to drink.

Maggie had real problems with this too. Here's what I've done, and it seems to be working out quite well.

First, prunes are your friend. Try baby prunes puree if she'll still take it, and try the juice. Maggie loves prunes, so this was easy peesy.

Next, I dialed back the milk because I was trying to wean her off bottles at nap times to sippy cups and I stumbled onto the best possible mix for her. With Maggie it was either full on constipation, or the complete opposite extreme. I don't have to tell you it was gross. It's actually giving me the heeby jeebies telling you about it. In total she's getting between 8-10 ozs each day, and it seems like it's the perfect amount for her. It also makes her eat better at meal times because she isn't full of milk already.

Ooh, that's good advice!! Are you giving her prunes and prune juice as a daily thing, or only when she needs it?

only when she needs it. I tried every day, and that's when we had nastiness.

Also water daily is supposed to help constipation. I would offer her water through out the day, and I always have apple juice on hand so if she does get constipated I give her apple juice. She might like the prune/juice though. Kaileigh doesnt so thats why I use apple.
