Super clingy the past few days, low-grade fever for 2 days (gone today), last night she woke up at least once every hour...relatively easily settled, but still made for little sleep on everyone's part- except for the first time, she screamed for about 45 minutes, absolutely inconsolable. This was a good hour after I gave her tylenol and her fever was gone-we rechecked.
This morning she seemed fine initially but then started whining again, and here is the super weird part. She ALWAYS gets up in the morning and plays around the room, but this time she was just playing on top of me. I told her "Arie, go play with your toys!" (yeah, like you would talk to a dog, lol), but she wouldn't budge. I got up to use the bathroom and she started crying until I picked her up.
She is just so darn CLINGY, and I understand having a day or two like this, but she's been doing this for a few days, and she's been doing it public for weeks. I'm kinda upset, I joined an expensive gym a week ago and I haven't gone yet. I don't know how I'm going to leave her in the daycare there when she starts crying if someone looks at her.
Anyway...is this teething??? The reason I'm asking is I haven't noticed any normal signs of teething like excess saliva or chewing on things constantly. I don't know if molars are different than the front teeth. I mean, I KNOW she is teething, all 4 of her first molars have cut partially through, but I'm not sure if this is the issue.
Oh, one more thing, she has refused the pacifier for the past several days. Which normally would be awesome, except it takes forever to settle her down to sleep. She kept screaming yesterday when I would try to put her down, until she finally passed out a good hour and a half later...until she woke up screaming bloody murder.

Could it be an ear infection? I remember you saying in a last thread (not sure which one) she was pulling at her ears but you said she was teething. I think cutting molars would be very painful in my opinion so it could be that.

The reason I didn't think it was an ear infection was because she didn't seem to have any cold symptoms...but I'll see how putting her down for a nap today goes. If she starts screaming again, I'll have her checked out.

^^I think I remember Shannon saying something like her daughter Kaitlyn rarely had any symptoms of an ear infection. Im not sure if that was her or not..I hope you can find out what is wrong with her.

Let us know how she does for nap.

So going down for nap wasn't that bad....she refused her bottle of milk, which isn't that surprising because she had a big breakfast (an entire almond butter and jam sandwich, broccoli, and a banana...her solid intake is def. improving, yay!), and she sat on the bed for a long time instead of walking around while I was unpacking, but she went down pretty easily. But like I said, she had a fever yesteday and last night, but didn't have one this morning.
I hope whatever was/is going on is in the upswing. And I'm also not sure how well she is tolerating cow's milk. I mean, she was fine on milk-based formula and dairy products but like I said, the cow's milk constipated her until I started giving her prunes. Now she is better but still having a number of poops a day. I'm hoping her body is just adjusting, its not like she had bloody diarrhea or anything.

Teething! E is doing this now and we can finally see a molar coming through. But before that, we thought he was possessed....haha.

Usually (but not always) ear infections cause lots of sleepless nights AND days.
So maybe she's just having a sad day, or teething. At this point. It's so hard because we want to assume teething for everything, and because they cant talk we just have to guess at times.

I was also going to say teething. Maggie never has the same reaction twice with this stuff...but I'd also probably have her ears checked just to be cautious. I've had Maggie's checked umpteen times. The moment either DH or I get sick and it seems like she might be coming down with it too, she's in that dr's office so fast, it would make your head spin. Knock on wood, no ear infections yet, but I would hate to mess with not getting that diagnosed early if you know what I mean.

DH and I would say, "it's a demon or a tooth...either one is going to be painful."

I know, I HATE that. When can they start telling us what's wrong? 2? Although even then they might not be able to express it that well...anyway, that's one thing I definitely don't like about baby-hood, toddler-hood, when there is something wrong, we can only guess as to why.

I'm not much help, Seema, other than I think if she's cutting 4 molars at the same time it could easily bring on all of the symptoms you describe. I'm not sure why should wouldn't be salivating unless the molars are just too far back?
Have you taught Arie any baby signs yet? I'm working on the sign for "teeth" with Juliana so that hopefully she'll make that if it hurts her there. I don't know if it will work or not. She's pretty good with the signs I've taught her so far, other than she uses the sign for "milk" interchangeably with "mom, pick me up" ... go figure.

I say teething. My pedi says usually if there is an ear infection, they dont pull their ears bc it hurts too much and if you touch their ears, they will cry. Usually they pull their ears when teething. But everyone is different, so if she isnt better in a day or two, maybe take her in?

Marsha, I was thinking that too...I actually think someone (Liz?) mentioned it before, so I actually pulled on her ears a bit, and she didn't seem to mind at all. I am thinking it is teething and yesterday was just a super bad day of it. Today was much better, thank goodness. I mean, yesterday *I* was in tears.

She knows some signs, her favorite is the one for bird, LOL useful, I know!! But that's why I'm decorating her room in a birdie theme, she loves birds! Birds and dogs.
Anyway, as far as useful signs go, she knows the sign for more and she signs "all done" except she doesn't do it right, she waves instead lol. The thing is...I don't know if she knows what those signs mean. It just seems like she signs them when she hears the words or at random times. Except today she pointed at a picture of a banana in a book and signed "more" so I took it to mean that she wanted a banana. Maybe she thinks "more" is "want"? That's close enough I guess.
She does not sign "milk" or "hungry", which is so frustrating to me. She even has a pretty good vocabulary but she'll just cry until I eventually figure out to feed her, or she'll get frustrated and bite me, and then I know she's hungry.
I don't even know what the sign for teeth is, but I always ask her if her teeth are hurting her and I point to my mouth and then her mouth. LOL Needless to say, she looks at me like I'm an idiot.

Argh, she was up about 6 times again last night!!! I had to go through FOUR bottles of watered down formula to get her back to sleep... I tried once just water and she was up 10 minutes later.
When she woke up around 4 am, she was once again inconsolable...so I gave her some infant motrin although I really wasn't sure what was wrong. But then when she woke up at 6:30 (her normal time), she was also wailing her head off. I just don't know what is going on. I guess I should take her to a pediatrician, but it just seems weird when she seems fine during the day.
Can they develop acid reflux at 1?

Try orajel or whatever you have like it (we have anbesol here) the next time she starts fussing and see if it calms her down a bit. If it helps, then you've nailed it at teething and the next time she starts hit her with a bit of that and some motrin. That should help greatly. It's possible, if she drank that much last night she was just overstuffed you know? If she's up and up and up again, there's something else happening, and it sounds like the bottle didn't actually address the issue.

So I ended up going to the pedi today because Arie was just a screaming crying mess. We went to a new one since we moved, but this one is actually a partner with my old pedi. She actually looked at Arie a few times when we are in the hospital because our pediatrician was on vacation.
It was such a coincidence that she works so close to our house...and she even said she lives in the same complex. LOL so if I see her jogging or something I'll probably flag her down with questions. Hubby wants me to "interview" a few more peds, and I think I will, but so far, I liked her. Except she did say one strange thing, which I will get to.
Ok, she said Arie is reacting to her immunizations and it might take another couple of weeks to fully recover. She also said she recommends toddlers to be done with bottles by the time they are 15-18 months, so that gives us a few months to work with. But poor baby, I'm such an awful mom, I was actually getting annoyed with her fussiness and night-wakings. Like I knew something was wrong, but I kept thinking "ok, you don't feel good, just sleep!!" But now that I have a better handle on what might be causing it, I feel bad for feeling the way I did. But its hard to take so much whining/crying. I kinda feel like the colic has returned, although its not nearly that bad.
Here is the weird thing the pediatrician said though... I asked her how much milk Arie should be drinking and she said she only needs 8 oz/day, as long as she is also eating cheese and yogurt. Which is great because that's what I dropped her to after her constipation. But then she went on to say that she should be on 2% milk, not whole milk. Everything I have read has said 1 year olds should be on whole milk until they are 2, and then drop them to 2% milk. I honestly don't think its a HUGE difference, but I just wasn't expecting her to say that.

Not sure about the whole milk vs 2% milk but my ped also said only 8oz of milk a day. He said at this age the nutrients should come from solids and too much milk will fill their belly. We were guilty of giving Caleb like 4 sippy cups a day of milk. My ped has us do whole milk till age 2 than 1% after that.

That's the reason she said 2%...because she said the whole milk just fills their bellies more so they eat less nutrients found in other foods. I'm thinking if she is only getting 8 oz a day its not going to be a huge difference so I'll probably just keep her on the whole milk for now.
