Looking for opinions please!

Brendan is almost 11 months and starting to crawl really well. He likes to use my fingers to pull himself up and then hold hands to walk around.
He had a pair of Robeez 6-12 month crib shoes (really sandals, but closed toe) but he has outgrown them.

I haven't bought the next size up because A- he's only crawling and B- it's SO hot out and I hate putting him in anything that is just going to make him hotter.

Does he need shoes because he's crawling, or should I wait until he starts walking?

TIA!

I haven't really put shoes on Tommy yet either. I was looking for shoes since he is starting to stand on his own and taking a few steps. He honestly hates them, he curls up his toes every time I try. Right now he has a pair of soft sole sandals from gymboree, pretty much crib shoes. I am going to get him a pair of sneakers as soon as I can find them in a size 3, since he is showing interest in taking some steps.

My pediatrician recommends no shoes till they are 2 so they can walk w/o slipping and falling. But in the winter time I put shoes on her to keep the socks on and to keep the feet warm. I am not putting shoes on her in the summer.

That said, if you take your baby to daycare or an indoor playground/library you probably should put socks/shoes on your baby- to protect your baby from injury and cooties - they actually demand it at my gym (no barefoot children allowed). But at home I don't see a need.

At home we don't do shoes, even if we are outside. I let her walk barefoot.

I do put shoes on her when we go out sandals open toed because thats all I can get on her she curls her toes and fights otherwise. But she likes her sandals..lol She isn't walking around the stores or anything like that so I feel okay putting them on her. But I know soon I will be looking to get her some because it will be getting cold here in like a month or two and she will be walking around more in public. So I will need something.

I think before 2 when they are in the prewalking/early walking stage they recommend a soft flexible rubber sole. Full walking around 2 then go with the hard soles.

We don't really do shoes. Although she has a bunch. If we go somewhere she might start out in shoes but they quickly come off. I'm not putting shoes on her now since she is starting to walk. It's easier to walk without the shoes and also shoes can cause them to use wrong foot placement when learning. (so I've heard..) Hallie goes barefoot 99% of the time.

What all of you said is basically what I've been thinking. I'll probably get him something soft but cute for dress up for the fall, and definitely something for winter for warmth, but he's not going to be wearing them inside/for walking around.
Thanks everyone

Paige will get shoes when she is walking full time. I'll probably get her the early walkers from Stride Rite, they're specifically for kids new to walking.
