I know this is not the time to ask but I am...lol..
Has anyone used cloth trainers?? Im referring to potty trainer pants.
Kaitlyn began potty training at 16 months, and trained failry quickly, and was easy. We did use pull-ups with her, and then went to straight panties during the day as she got better, then overtime panties over night (Yes, she was THAT easy)
I heard you can buy pull-up type cloth trainers to reuse but dont know anything about them, does anyone else? Ever used them? How do they compare to disposable trainer pants?
Im looking at getting some of these: LuluBellDesigns Aqua Paisley Flowers Side by LuluBellDesigns
and then some of these as she gets better: Cloth Trainers - Blueberry Cloth Diapers
I know, this is a LONG way away but Id like to start buying now so Ill have enough when it's time to start. I think I may buy one a week to off set the costs.

Honestly, I had one cloth trainer that I used with Grace but it was the same as using regular panties...the pee just ran down her leg. So I wouldn't waste money on these.
Grace basically trained herself. I never bought one of those fancy potty seats. I just got this potty chair (although this one is a new version...mine didn't sit on the floor just on the toilet). I would set her on is once in a while and bring her to the bathroom when I had to pee. One day she said she wanted to wear panties like mommy so on a Sunday we went to Target and bought 16 pairs of panties. That Monday morning she woke up and went right into panties. I did not put her in pull-ups at all. She had one poop accident and a lot of pee ones the first two days. By Thursday she was trained all through the day and the night. It was that easy. Sure she has had some accidents here and there but that's uncommon for her. She was trained at 27 months old. So I got to go one entire month with out changing a diaper before Caleb was born. LOL
I dread training Caleb. I hear boys are so much harder.

Heather, Kaitlyn was easy too and we used a potty seat on the adult one. We had bought a chair and she hated it so after I would go potty it was her turn, every time, and that was before we really started. I used pull-ups because she could do them herself, because she would have a meltdown if I did it because she was so independent.
Im hoping Kail is just as easy but I hate the thought of the price of pull-ups. The ones I showed first are pull-up diapers, they are water proof and contain urine just like a diaper, the bottom ones are the training panties just like the gerber ones at the store, they dont hold pee but they are cute.
I cant remember age exactly but she started training at 16ish months, fully trained during the day by like 18-20 months and all night just right after turning 2. She was ready and I just went with it.
I think if I go clout route I'll do lots of gender neutral patterns so I can re-use them with the next baby in case it would be a boy.

What are some signs of readiness?

Well for her she HATED to be wet or dirty and would pull and tug when she was wet. I mean, as soon as she would pee, she wanted it off immediately. That was my first sign and had no idea it was even potty training related until my mom pointed that out to me.
Then she always had BM's like on schedule it seemed and was having dry times, where she would wake up dry and not pee in her diaper until about 15 minutes later or go quite a few hours with being dry then pee a lot.
Also she was always interested in the potty in the bathroom. She of course always went with me but she just seemed interested and ready so I started early, and it worked out great.
Ill do the same with Kaileigh, she's not even 13 months yet so Im in no hurry to even start, I just wanted to be prepared with what I'll use.

We knew DD1 was ready when she started hiding whenever she was going #2 in her diaper. She was 3.
I'm hoping what they say about it being easier for subsequent children is true with us. My mom swears her worst was my older brother, and it only got easier and younger with each kid. I can see how LO watches and interacts with her sister; she's always copying her!

Potty training: How to get the job done - MayoClinic.com
Quote:
Is it time?
Potty training success hinges on physical and emotional readiness, not a specific age. Many kids show interest in potty training by age 2, but others may not be ready until age 2 1/2 or even older. And there's no rush. If you start potty training too early, it may only take longer.
Is your child ready? Ask yourself these questions:
Does your child seem interested in the potty chair or toilet, or in wearing underwear?
Can your child understand and follow basic directions?
Can your child ask simple questions?
Does your child stay dry for periods of two hours or longer during the day? Does he or she wake from naps dry?
Does your child have fairly predictable bowel movements?
Does your child tell you through words, facial expressions or posture when he or she needs to go?
Is your child uncomfortable in wet or dirty diapers?
Can your child pull down his or her pants and pull them up again?
If you answered mostly yes, your child may be ready for potty training. If you answered mostly no, you may want to wait awhile — especially if your child has recently or is about to face a major change, such as a move or the arrival of a new sibling. A toddler who opposes potty training today may be open to the idea in a few months.

I had 3 of the diaper-type cloth trainers for Madelyn. Hated them. Most definately would not use them again. We did use pull-ups some of the time, though I understand the arguement that they are just like diapers. I always called them her princess panties and she didn't really see them as diapers. It worked for her, so that's what I'll try again this next time. But not until next summer at the earliest.

Holly ... For Grace we knew she was ready because she would take off her diaper as soon as she went. You can imagine that that got pretty messy. She would also ask to go, sometimes she actually went and sometimes she didn't. She was dry through naps and during the night. We actually tried pull-ups on Grace but she refused to wear them so panties it was.
The most frustrating thing for me about potty training is when they are newly potty trained. As soon as I would get to the back of the store or get the cart loaded up she would have to go. Grace hated using the public restroom so it would take her FOREVER to go and sometimes 5 or 6 trips back to the restroom. We ended up just putting a potty chair in the van because it was so much easier. She was more willing to go on that then the public toilet, not to mention it didn't gross me out as much. If she had to poop we would just put a plastic trash bag in the potty as a liner. We still have the potty chair in the van.
My best advice to anyone is just wait until they are ready. I don't care when Caleb is trained. It's much easier to just wait until they are ready than to fight with them for months. Hopefully Caleb will be trained in time for school

The crazt thing for us was that Caden showed all the signs of readiness.....he was just so bull headed and would do things just because he could. I don't know I think peronality of the kid takes apart in it. Caden would literally come up to me with his diaper bag and say "momma change me"!

For you ladies who said you used cloth trainers and hated them, were they the gerber ones by any chance? Any cloth diaperer will tell you that they suck. I've heard really good things about Super Undies, Shannon. Super Undies!
For night time, I'll just keep using my mother ease sandys or the mother ease bed wetters.

I used cloth trainers with all my girls because I wanted them to feel when they were wet. I will also use cloth trainers with Ty and it only makes sence since I cloth diaper.
Nicole didnt train until she was 3 y/o and it was a challenge, but both Amber and Julia were 2 y/o and super easy to train. I dont remember signs in them exactly, I just knew they were ready.
I cant imagine even thinking about training Ty until he is 2 1/2 y/o or so. Certainly no where in our near future.
