I can't take my LO shopping anymore. He constantly tries to stand up while in the cart. Today I had to hold him with one hand and push the cart with the other! I have an eddie bauer cart cover with straps but they really don't hold him down. Does anyone have any suggestions?

is there anyway you could swap about the waist strap in the seat cover and put a harness style strap in place of it?

some stores have shopping carts with a little infant car seat attached to the top. I would suggest to stick him in that and buckle him into that 5 point harness. Then he won't be able to get out at all. Granted, he'd have to lie down, but it's still better than trying to keep him from getting out.

I have the same cart cover and you can't, it's a pain. Maybe you can cut into where the straps are supposed to go so you can do the waist one as well?

You know what ticks me off?! That a lot of stores are cutting the seatbelts off around here. Walmarts too. I think there may have been some kind of lawsuit about them but I'm just speculating. It's just weird. But lots of times I have to walk around with one hand on Heidi's shoulder. Such a pain.

Really?! I haven't seen anything like that here! I would be very upset.

I googled it and one lady says this:
"I'm glad I'm out of the stage now because every cart I use the belt has been CUT. The new carts have a safety mechanism that makes it harder for a child to unbuckle, but there were ones that were even hard for me--had to have an employee help me once. I'm not sure if impatient parents are cutting them or what, but it doesn't look good..."
I'm going to pay attention more next time I see that and take note if it's all of them or just a few and if it's all of them, I will ask management why that is.

I have seen cut ones but random carts here and there. I just assumed that it was because the buckle was broken or something.

i dont even use the cart protector thing
too much hassle
we throw his blankie over the handles so when he tries to chomp it hes just getting blanket
i doubt the infant carrier attached thing would be good though our children seem more mobile and i know my son would just struggle and try to get out the whole time
hopefully its just a stage for him and he'll grow out of it sooner rather than later

I use it because that is how we all got nasty sick last Dec. I had gone to the store, put Dane in the front seat and he was the 1st to get sick. Followed by me and then everyone else. It was so horrible. The only places we had been the few days before that were the one local grocery store. He touched the cart, I touched the cart. I even wipe them down but yuck. If I don't wear Bishop, the cart cover has to go on.

Yes that is what I am afraid of. Joey puts everything in his mouth. I really haven't noticed if a lot of carts have straps at the places where i shop. I guess I am not very observant. I also don't tie the eddie bauer cover onto the cart very tight because of laziness and I'm usually in a hurry. I can try that next time and tighten the shoulder straps as well to see if that helps.

We don't use a cover (I dont wipe the bars, either...bad me I guess). But, the straps tend to strap him in just under the armpits. When I tighten it properly it holds him in place pretty well because it holds him against the back of the seat, not towards the front. That makes it pretty hard for him to move enough to get his feet up through the legholes.

I'm guessing marisa you are talking about rotovirus which is notorious for living on those carts... babies with a leaky diapers, adults and kids not washing thier hands after going potty ... i use my cart cover near about religiously because my family also got rotovirus from a shopping cart but that was 11 years ago before the cart covers were so popular... you wouldnt wish it on somone you hated .. thus i use the cart cover. and it is a pain to put on one handed while holding a 20 some pound toddler (thats what are babies are becoming ..sob sob)
Oh back to the topic on hand .... i have no idea how to keep them from standing up maybe putting their straps through yours with making a bigger hole? i have no idea..i keep telling him no sir and keeping him down and after 2-3 times he will stop... or maybe bring some new toys or a measuring cup and another toy to put in it.... that is wyatts new thing lately ... right now he is putting a shape cube inside an empty puffs container...
