Okay, I already posted I'm going back to school, but I am also trying to think of things I can work on before I start applying for jobs that would help with my resume. Since I've been out of the work force for so long I am scared especially with the job market the way it is. I'm trying to think of skills that I could work on or classes I can take (non college) that would be good to add to a resume. I thought about getting a book on spanish to brush up on that. I took it in high school, but that's about it. Of course, that seems kind of stupid, but trying to think of things that I could work on that would give me a leg up.

I thought about volunteering and I may do that as well, but it doesn't look like many places will actually let me do volunteer medical type work. I don't know what else I could work on. I am not planning to try to go back to work until this time next year and hopefully part time. I have been watching employment ads in the rare event that some perfect part time opportunity presents itself, but can't think of anything else.

I don't know much about the medical field, but I do know technology is constantly changing. If there's any kind of medical tech classes you can take to brush up on computer skills I'd say go that route.

Otherwise, any kind of generalized volunteer work is always good to have on a resume, regardless if it's job-related or not.

Thanks, I was thinking about brushing up on computer skills as well. I think I am going to see about volunteering at the VA. Going to wait until Neil is done working this outage (mandatory overtime) and then see what type of volunteer spots they have.

I volunteered in a hospital for a year when I was in college. I think hospitals will take volunteers - you won't be allowed to do blooddraws but you will help the nurses. I think that would be good experience to have on the resume.

I like the suggestion of taking medical tech classes.

Maybe you could even try to volunteer or even find a part time job in an old folks home? My cousin works as a caretaker in one and they need help.
