I just realized I forgot to update everyone on the house buying. The inspection came back horrible...basically we'd be buying a frame of a house and a yard, and have over $40k in repairs before we could move in.

So we are searching again. We looked at a BEAUTIFUL log cabin with a loft today, and a MIL suite (which we would rent out of course). Only $99k. Only problem is they are saying it is not able to be financed...so we are trying to find out why (if its termites we aren't even going to make an offer..which I hope not this is on 1.25 acres and is HUGE and BEAUTIFUL!).

UGH, that stinks about the first inspection. Hopefully the log cabin will work out for you guys, it sounds like a nice piece of land.

Sorry about the first house not working out. I hope the next one does. Strange they wont finance it. I am curious as to why? And wow houses are cheap where you live! If I was rich I would buy one just as investment. You couldnt even buy an acre of land where I live, without a house, for under $500,000.

Ya - that's entirely unheard of here in Ontario too. I'm looking for a house, and trying to figure out how I can get it below $450 without having a 2 hour commute for DH each way in to work!

Wow, I'm glad I live here. I think we have prices more along the lines of Elizabeth's. I just can't imagine what we'd do if we had to move to somewhere where the prices are outrageous like that.

I'm sorry about the inspection, but so glad you found out when you did instead of buying it and then finding out! When will you know anything about the log cabin?

That's a bummer. We just moved from someplace where housing prices are like that, but moved to someplace where you can't get an acre of land for less than 250K. We can't even sell our house back there.
